Tyre pressures

Hey Hey :D

I've been pottering about with my car today as we're going on a road trip tomorrow (not to the waste site again, don't get excited Quasar :p) but thing is there are two passengers going down (150 mile ish) but 4 coming back.

Been looking at the tyre pressure table on my driver door and it says

..........Up to 3.......More than 3
Front:......32.................35
Back:.......35.................38

So what do I set them to?? I've heard something about how you should increase pressures for a long journey but surely on a hot summers day like tomorrow they will expand anyway with the high speed and heat

Having said that I don't want to drive on the higher setting if only 2 people in the car because I'm guessing the treads won't be fully in contact with road surface? :o

Hope you can help - Kwik Fit bloke had a very strong brummie and though he was helpful, I couldn't understand much of what he said :o :rotfl:

Cheers peeps

Get the train it will be a lot easier on your brain cells :rotfl:

Just pressure them to Full load as you will be taking luggage.

Personally I would run them at the higher pressure, then if you usually drive with less than three people adjust them accordingly when you have finished the trip. I doubt if the pressure would increase by a great deal with the temperatures that you are likeley to generate. I read an article recently of a guy on a track day at Silverstone, caning a Porsche 911 around the GP circuit. Over two sessions the pressures increased by 7 psi all round.

I'm not taking the train! I just did the costs on the national rail site and it's costing £60 for two return journeys and £46 for two singles on the way back. Compare with petrol costing around £30 for the entire journey and we're laughing even with wear and tear. Also with train we'll need to spend an hour in Bristol :naughty: :rotfl:

OK so I've set the fronts to 35 and back to 38 - though the outward journey will be just two people no luggage :o but it ain't going to affect the grip is it...

Shouldn't affect grip, if you can feel the difference you should try get a job at lotus in their chasis department.

Just remember and check/adjust your tyre temps whilst the tyres are cool and rather than using a rubbish petrol station gauge visit the local tyre centre who will gladly do it for free. Saves you the effort of doing it :D

I am also crazy about tyre pressure, do not know why :o. I bought myself a very nice Michelin footpump for 12 pounds (usually costs 20) to be able to adjust tyre pressure at home when tyres are cold. Unfortunately, both rear tyres on my car loose pressure very quickly, will have to get them fixed tomorrow .

Well the roadtrip was a success :D and no blowouts or anything - in fact the car felt rather light considering there were 4 passengers on return  I had pressures set to high load for both legs of journey and no probs.

    Cheers peeps  :T
