Mot

I was taking my car for its MOT when I decided to nip in to town for fuel before I went, I drove by one of those vans that check if you have tax, I have tax and insurance but was wondering if they can detect I didnt have an MOT. Is it a £60 fine if you dont have a MOT even if I was going to the garage ?.

  • It's ok, it was probably just a speed trap.

You are allowed to drive a car on the road without an MOT if you are on the way to a PRE-BOOKED mot inspection.

If your tax and insurance is up to date I doubt you have much to worry about.

    See this link

    http://www.yourdrivinglicence.co.uk/mot-your-vehicle.html

    Where the following is stated

What Happens if Your Car Fails its MOT?

If your vehicle fails to pass its MOT inspection then you can have it retested after the work has been carried out to rectify the problems. You can have the garage that tested your car carry out the work for you or you can take it to any garage of your choice. However the work must be carried out to a standard that will make passing the MOT possible on its second attempt.

You should be aware that it is in your best interests to have any problems with the car put right as soon as possible in order to have it retested. Without a valid MOT certificate not only can you not re-tax the vehicle but by law you should not have it on the road.

You can however drive the vehicle to and from the test centre and also to and from the garage where the repair work is being carried out. These are the only two occasions in which the vehicle is allowed to be on the road without a valid MOT certificate.

Also if this is the case you should check with your insurance company to find out if their insurance will cover you for these journeys. Some insurance companies will negate your insurance policy if you drive your vehicle without a valid MOT certificate

You should go to the MoT by the most direct route.

Of course if you didn't have enough fuel to get to the MoT station.............

You'll know in the next few days.

Definitely, If you popped into town 25 miles in the opposite direction then you really should not have been on the road in the car.

You can also stop on route to get refreshments or other desirable items.

I'm certain a detour to get petrol by a reasonable route would be acceptable.

If it was a DVLA van they won't be checking for MOT.
