I have £22,000 saved which I have had in a fixed rate bond for the last 5 years, previously with Bradford and Bingley, now Santander. This year when it matured I went in to a different branch to the one I would normally use and was told that it would mature the day after even though it clearly said on the bond it matured on the 13th. I signed all the paperwork to re-invest in a 2year bond and came back to Spain, a week later I received a letter stating that as I was resident abroad they were unable to let me have the bond. This was never a problem with B&B so why should it be any different now? Problem I have is that this money is now sat in account earning nothing. As I plan on moving back to the UK in 2010 I don't want to bring the money here. Anyone got any ideas what I should do/

Move it to a higher paying account with someone outside the Santander group (Alliance & Leicester, Abbey and Bradford & Bingley savings). You should be able to get upto 3.6% - I am assuming you have a postal address in the UK? This is probably the problem with B&B, ie not a UK resisdent, see attached.
