WDYT - have I scuppered my chances

I wonder if they will scan your application form to see if you have made any grammatical errors

Actually, that'd either be 'computer programmers' or 'computer programs' depending on the context it's been looked in.0 -

The errors I noticed included the following:
There is a numbered list of duties and there are two no. 16s on the list.
There is an organisation chart, and the job they are recruiting for isn't on the chart.
They have "computer programers" instead of "computer programmes".
They have "enquires" instead of "enquiries".
and
They have "use of an other language" instead of "use of another language".
Sigh - I just hope they can look past any perceived smugness and see the A1 employee they'd be missing out on if they passed me by :rotfl:
Thank you for your input. I will let you know if I get anywhere.
Unfortunately Councils have HR departments, who not only write job adverts and specs but read – and more than likely screen – all incoming applications. They then provide the interviewer(s) with a shortlist of people who have made the cut so I'm not sure that suggesting they're a touch incompetent is your best move.
That said, you've done it now, and as Councils operate an Equal Opportunities Policy, anyone who fits the criteria, e.g., perfectly matches the 'person specification' SHOULD be granted an interview. I say 'should' because if several hundred people – all meeting the essential criteria – applied, it simply wouldn't be feasible to interview them all. If you meet the 'desirable' elements of the person spec as well as the 'essential', I imagine you'll stand a reasonably good chance of getting an interview...
Good luck!
BrionaIf I don't respond to your posts, it's probably because you're on my 'Ignore' list.0 -
that isn't how equal opps employers work.
if you are from a disadvantaged group - eg disabled - and meet the criteria, you will be interviewed.
for everyone else, they take the very best applications. Otherwise they could be forced to interview hundreds of people!
Not pertinent to OPs question but felt the need to clear that up.Debt free 4th April 2007.

Only those who use the 'positive about disable people' do what you describe. I've never heard of any other form of positive discrimination in this country.
Not sure what you mean by "Equal Opportunities Employer". Every employer should have Equal Opportunities policies and abide by anti-discrimination legislation.

I didn't tell them what the errors were that I'd noticed. Just that I'd identified *some* errors.
Oh well, as has been said, what's done is done, and I'll just have to wait and see whether they'll offer me an interview.
THEN I can stress about whether to point out all the errors I noticed or just one or two :rotfl::rotfl:.

Have you been invited for an interview?

thats not equal opportunities then is it really, thats positive discrimination.
you have 100 people apply 20 people meet the standard including 1 disabled person.
I wouldn't definately invite the disabled person for 1 of the 6 interviews, I would look through the CV's again and whittle them own on other reasons....ie longevity in jobsAlways ask ACAS0 -
If the mistakes were just typos it probably all depends on who reads your application. Some people may think nothing of it, some people may be impressed by it, some people may think it's cheeky. But I doubt many people would actually bin/discard you application because of it.
