Are you saying that Acer have still got your laptop after Comet sent it away and now Comet are saying "tough" ?

If that is the case you need to write to Comet not Acer. Lay out in the actions taken so far and give them 14 days to get your laptop returned fixed or a suitable alternative. Tell them you will have no recourse but to issue proceedings against them in Court if you haven't received it in that time. Keeping a copy of your letter and sending it recorded would be a good idea too.

Is it the Acer Aspire One? There are a number of issues on the Net about people who have this problem with booting up and apparently flashing the BIOS fixes it.

Thread here with instructions if you follow it down.

The problem is that technically there isn't anything wrong with the hardware. As Acer have said, it's a software issue. It seems that flashing the BIOS fixes it. Personally I'd get it back and do the fix talked about on the forum linked and it'll be sorted.

No, the problem is that Comet are refusing to accept their responsibility to the OP.

Good that you have come on here to help - but can you to explain why your store is misleading customers in the first place? Your staff will no doubt continue to tell customers that they have to speak to the manufacturer - with whom they have NO contract. Why are they doing this Phil? Have you contacted the store manager to tell him to re-advise all the staff of correct procedure?

Its no good dealing with one incident unless you correct the source of the problem - your staff who are a product of the company and its ethos towards customers.

Comet generally have a poor reputation but there are so many posts here of similar behaviour at the big retailers that I expect they deliberately mislead as it saves them money. Until Comet and others actually get prosecuted for this sort of behavior it will continue.

Original poster please post back so we know what happened - you don't need to take anything 'off line' - we don't need any specific details and it helps others with problems at Commet - and maybe they can personal-message Phil directly in addition to a post in future.
