Boots used to sell a barrier cream which protects your hands from all sorts of nasty cleaning products. It even stays on when you wash them. I'd pop in and see if they still stock it. From memory it wasn't very expesinve either0

Im an HCA in a hospital and not only am I washing my hands all the time, but also the alcohol rub dries them out something terrible and I suffer with psoriasis on my hands which lives me with huge open patches of raw skin - my friend bought me some Vaseline Intensive Care Hand and Nail cream and its fantastic!*The RK and FF fan club* #Family*Don’t Be Bitter- Glitter!* #LotsOfLove ‘Darling you’re my blood, you have my heartbeat’ Dad 20.02.200

Have used many hand creams (Dove Pro-age or something, Dove Regenereist, Vaseline hand cream, Vaseline itself, Lush Smitten, Lush Lemony Flutter, BodyShop Hemp hand cream....(list goes on) my favorite is Kiehl's Hand salve. It does something to make my hands feel soothed and is not so heavy in glycerine that my hands feel dry even when they have an oily feeling film over them!
Only problem is its not cheap! Its around £10 a tube!!! Maybe ask for one from Santa?0 -
Another fan of Hemp hand cream here. To smooth them try a spoon of sugar in olive oil abd rub gently.0

That sounds really interesting and useful ......does anybody recall a name?0 -
The best hand cream I have ever used is Crabtree and Evelyn's Gardeners' Hand Therapy. It is expensive but goes a long way, is very moisturising and absorbs quickly (as well as smelling lovely).somewhere between Heaven and Woolworth's0

Ooh thanks for all your replies.
I now have a list of products to try as long as my arm!
Going to try the BS hemp protector first. OH picking me one up in the morning when he goes to town.
Mrs_Ryan - I'm a bit obsessed with alcohol hand rubs. I carry one round with me at all times (for when I use public toilets ect.) probably making it a lot worse and it stings! I think i'll stop using it for now.
Would also like to know the name of the barrier cream if anyone knows.0 -
wow, I can't believe nobody's mentioned Neutrogena hand cream, I get really bad dry hands (so bad they split) and this is the only stuff that works, I recommend it 100%, I'll never use anything else! it's amazing, and unscented (I find perfumed stuff a bit gross) and it's only £3.25 or so.
Beware of the cracked heel cream, they tend to smell Very strong, and have AHA's in them, they're not really moisturisers, more creams that dissolve the thick skin to reveal the normal skin underneath,0 -
I know this sounds strange but Bodyshop's body butter is a fantastic hand cream. If you do try it, buy the smallest tub to see if it works for you.
Good luck with finding a hand cream which will make your hands soft.No toiletries challenge, started 18/1/2010 - Putting £1 in my savings jar for every item that I use up. Pot 1 to 4 = £261. Pot 5=£23
Boots points:£39.21. Extra money in 2012:£674.59. In 2013 £603.48. 2014: £85. 2015: £0 :j0
