Buyer pulled out after survey - should I be worried?
Comments

The survey I had done for my flat was practically worthless. I paid for a Homebuyers survey but they covered their back so much that it was impossible to tell what were major issues and what were theoretical possibilities.
Mine mentioned a possible risk of asbestos too, which as a naive first time buyer freaked me out. Quick phone call later I discovered it was actually a textured ceiling in the bedroom. Fine, I just won't sand it or remove it!0 -
thanks for all your advice, I am reassured that many people seem to think similar to me that they buyers were potentially very nervous and that these issues all seemed relatively solvable. I think I will try to get to the bottom of what if any asbestos they may be and get a radon test done.
For this buyer my agent has said it was the radon that freaked them out despite it being a 1-3% risk and I offered to test and pay for repairs it wasnt enough as one of her parents had died from cancer (which Radon can cause) and she now wants to leave the area completely when she was told she would get the same for any local property she looked at and indeed her current home.
oh well, too late for this buyer and probably means we have lost the house we want but we'll start again0 -
Complete over reaction to the radon gas....but some people are like that. Someone else will be come along, Im sure.
As for the asbestos....do you have artex in the house? If so, this is probably where this statement comes from as older artexing I beleive may contain asbestos. The surveyor can't test it, but most put this line in if they see any artex.0 -
stanleyunwin / northern_girl - yes we have artex in a couple of rooms and I presumed that is what it was - hence my lack of real concern.
anotherginger - yeah i know the stat i quoted makes no sense to me either but i quoted it direct from my searchs, another reason why i checked it again now and got the clearer 1-3% risk rating
homersimpson - the station is nothing major a small brick building on a plot of land perhaps 3m X 3m. Whilst you do have to pass it to reach the house i bet the majority of people would never see it as it surrounded by hedges. I had forgotten it was there and it took me 30 miutes to realise what the reference could be to!0 -
Anything like this may afffect the house resale value and buyers may worry it might be difficult to sell on.0
