Awaiting Mortgage Offer from Abbey - How long?

Hi Guys,

I have been checking the forum for many years now and would like to thank all members, as I have learnt so much from this forum alone!

I am a FTB and recently have had an offer accepted for an apartment. I put through a mortgage application with Abbey via a mortgage broker.

It has been 2 weeks now and we have not heard from Abbey yet.

What I would like to find out is, are they any other FTBs or buyers alike, currently waiting for Abbey’s mortgage offer?

If so, how long is the typical waiting time?

Thank you!

  • I went direct through Abbey and it took a week - I got put on a fast track as we'd already had problems arranging a mortgage through Northern Rock and had made an offer on a house.
My solicitor mentioned Abbey have been notoriously slow recently, so if you go through broker and don't get fast track could take a long time.

Used Abbey via broker in Aug/Sept - was told they were very busy and were taking longer than expected - I think it was around 10 days before we got it sorted. It was perhaps the worst period for waiting so I can completely sympathise. Hang in there!
  • thanks guys.

10 days through the broker is not bad at all. i will take that.

cant see it happening now though until january the least....

    gutted.

I used them in October. They were fine. No long waits so you may find it's not a long wait at all!

Well my broker sorted out our agreement in principal with the Abbey on the same day. I think he just put the full application in yesterday and suggested a survey 'might' even be done before the festive break if we're lucky.

We're hoping to move in before the end of February as my wife goes back to work (from maternity) first week in March.
