Hi there I am 37 and have had Polycystic ovaries with hirsurtism since 1997. I had the usual probs with pregnancy and after 4 years of fertility treatment I finally got pregnant after 2 treatments of artificial insemination. Two years later I had an operation (ovarian Diathermy) to get pregnant and with Clomid I was ovulating naturally and pregnant 4 months later. This operation also helped the ovarian pain and that relief lasted nearly 6 years...... but has come back with avengence. I was told by the private fertillity doctor who did the op that if i wanted to get pregnant without having the op again then i should try soonish after the birth of my second son as the effects only last a year and I'd have to pay for it again! Anyway we did and 4 weeks later was pregnant with my last baby ( little girl who is now 4 and gorgeous!) I have been back to another gynae and because we have moved counties have had to have loads of retests..he refuses to do the ovarian diathermy again but will do it as a last resort.. i said i would be happy to have the ovary whipped out as i didn't need it anymore. He shouted me down and reminded me we don't need our ovaries to get pregnant and that they play a vital role in balancing our hormones and helping us concentrate etc...I reminded him I had PCOS and therefore my hormones were inbalanced and therefore the ovaries weren't doing their job and this also caused blips with my concentration. we compromised and for the next 6 months I am having a monthly injection in my stomach to temporarily shut my ovaries down. it's called Zoladec and I had my first one there and then 3 weeks ago when i went back to see the gynae after the bowel speciallist he referred me to denied the pain was caused by my bowels.. anyone else had Zoladex and had any side effects or success with it. Many thanks in advance!
Don't lead me into temptation I can find it myself! DFW LBM 03/11/08

Hi, I have been to see my consultant today and he has suggested Zoledex injections to help me become free from pain, although having read up on these injections i am not keen.. Im only 24, and my consultant told me that these injections will put me through the menopause, and hopefully find the cause to the pain...0

I had Zoladex injections. They aren't pleasant but were better when I had them without the anaesthetic injection first funnily enough.
I had endometriosis and had a hysterectomy where they left an ovary - one was too badly damaged to leave, and I had to return two years later to have that removed under another op.
Zoladex didn't really make me menopausal and I still had periods. In fact, I would have said it didn't work. Having a hysterectomy was the best thing I ever did! Quality of life is so much better now and it was only afterwards that I realised how much I'd suffered over the years.Do not allow the risk of failure to stop you trying!0 -
Hi there
I have been on Zoladex for 4 months. I had a lapaoscopy in October after years of excrutiating pain, month in month out and was diagnosed with endometreosis (I am 26). I read lots of terrible things about it on the internet and was terrified of the possible side effects but I have to say I haven't felt better!! I have had lots of hot flushes....but nothing compared to what I was feeling before.
I am not saying these injections are for everyone, because people arent all the same. But for me they worked wonders. I am due to come off them in April....so I will let you know how I get on.
Good luck and hope you feel better soon xx0 -
I've had them, to help shrink an enormous fibroid to make surgery easier. The first one didn't seem to have many side effects but I was very ill at the time anyway and possibly just didn't notice. The second and third ones definitely were unpleasant and I felt lousy, however, not having them was not an option as the fibroid had already caused complications which almost killed me. I had full menopausal symptoms, though TBH I was actually quite disappointed that I didn't just carry on through the menopause (can happen with Zoladex) and get it out of the way, especially since the surgeon then went to great pains not to perform a hysterectomy, even though it would have been an easier operation and I'd already told him I was quite happy to have it.0

Hi everyone,
Without meaning to whatsoever, you've got me in a bit of a panic!
My daughter was prescribed Zoladex injections for nearly a year when she was just nine years old to stop the periods that had just started, that she couldn't cope with obviously because of her age.
Reading between the lines of what you've said it may affect her ability to have children which we were never told was a possibility.
Have I understood this right?
Many Thanks

I was given zoladex for six months 12 years ago to help alleviate the symptoms of servere endometriosis. I went on to conceive twins naturally 4 years later. I don't remember ever being told it could affect my fertility.

Wow Swampmonster, that's one brave lass to cope with those injections at 9yrs old.
Hope it all turns out well and I'm sure she'll be OK.Do not allow the risk of failure to stop you trying!0 -
