MBNA allowed a transaction after I cancelled CC

However the dubious practice of accepting transactions after a card is cancelled
Whether or not it is 'dubious' doesn't change the fact that all credit cards are run like this- not just MBNA. If you set up a payment then you must cancel it yourself with the company you set it up with.0 -
I'm sure it's only a matter of time before the whole CCA thing gets changed.
I realise this isn't the case here, but there are endless tales of people having trouble cancelling them and even closing the account doesn't make them go away.
No doubt it will end up in court or the OFT will intervene and the system will be changed. Too easy for the banks to say nothing to do with us and push people back to dodgy merchants.0 -
Evening all, hate to tell you but visa/mastercard is a guaranteed form of payment, so if your give your card details to a company and promise to pay for good or service provided the only person that can break the contract is you or the supplier, the card is just the processor, call through to MBNA, explain whats happened and hope they forgive you, also cancel the subscription, if you can't find the suppliers details to cancel, ask to be put through to disputes.0
-
It also does not say "Please ensure any subscriptions or regular payments on this account are cancelled as future transactions could still be added to your account" as this would then contradict the first statement.
sman
I can guarantee the closure letters for MBNA do state that you need to cancel subscriptions - I know as I work there. Futhermore, the bit that says "Please ensure you cancel all....." is in bold print so you cant really miss it.No Longer works for MBNA as of August 2010 - redundancy money will be nice though.

no idea what my nerdnumber is - i am now officially nerd 229, no idea on my debt free date0 -
Coming from a technical background I can say that setting something like this up would be trivial, technically.
If card is cancelled or card is overdrawn then
Decline Transaction
End
Where the issues start to arise is with the Board of a bank willingly making a change to a system that means less money coming in. Oh and not enough people complaining.
Simples!
Oh wow. Complex issue reduced to Pseudo-code and everything. Where were you when the entire western economy crashed that's all I can say. I'm sure that must be all there is to it and everything. Uh actually... no, the problem isn't technical but rather legal. Not so "simples" after all.If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything0 -
I've cancelled numerous cards (AMex, cap one, MBNA) over the years and I am pretty sure that ALL of them have read the script over the phone to cancel any subscriptions.0

Was it streamline.net that did this by any chance? I've just had the same thing happen to me, not happy but I rang my cc company and they said nothing they can do :mad:Trying to sort my life out, and I'm going to get there!0

i have just had the same problem with MBNA!!!! after i CLOSED My account...
sky decided to charge the card.....
How can they do this if the account has been closed????
to be hohnest i think mbna do this on purpose! if an account is closed how can it accept payments???
as far as i was concerned...... these companies have your credit card details to re charge you when they need payment!? If the account is closed the merchant should be DECLINING these payments!!! not allowing them when an account is closed!!
whos to say i find someone elses cc and use their details for these continous payments???
to be hohnest i really think this has mbna written all over it!!! i really want to send them a letter.... but i doubt ill get anywhere!
it redicioulous how they state your credit limit is £0 and allow a pyment for £12.50...
THIS Is over your credit liit and it should be declined!!!0 -

Not true.
Just some people do not blame the CC companies for absolutely everything. Sometimes the customer has to take some responsibility. In the case of the OP it was made very clear that they should cancel all subscriptions, if they could not be bothered I cannot see why it is not thier own fault.0
