NW extended warranty on electricals

Morning. Anyone know if Nationwide still honour their extra 1 year electrical cover if you paid for their washing machine etc by card in 2006 but had 3 yr guarantee already? My 2006 w. machine is broken. I know theyve changed it now to only applying to items with a mere 2 yr guarantee ,but when the w.machne was new, I think that was in force. Anyone claimed since the change, under similar conditions? Successful?

I don't think so. I think their upto 2 years manufacturers warranty rule has been around for a while.

Thanks, but couldnt find them. Am fuming - this was for my daughter and daft bat hasnt sent back the guarantee so of course they had no trace of it, but yes they would have hooured it if thats any help to anyone els.0

Update. Ive since been back to my daughter, and she confirmed she DID send back the warranty immediately after purchase to wherever JL.com asked it on the card to be sent to. However, NW credit card co just say, well sorry, we've no trace . Wonder how NW would know anyway as when you get the machine delivered , you dont get special guarantee paperwork to send seperately to NW. Anyone know exactly how the system is supposed to work , or is it a rip off that the cc co can always claim not to have any trace of your guarantee? The present t and c from NWide which I imagine will be the same as the ones my daughter bought under (except the 2yrs clause was 3yrs then -it changed in 08) and it only demands you activate your guarantee, which she did by sending it back.
The machine is a John Lewis own model and has lasted 3.5 years. 'Which' say washing machines should last 5yrs so Im thinking of approaching JL.com to see if they will do anything on those grounds- although the problem is that with new small twin babies,you cant do without a washing machine long enough to fight the case, and as the machines main control board has gone, its not worth repairing if she has to pay for it herself ,with the risk JL wouldnt repay her costs. Ive found a tenplate letter on the net which is built around things being fit for purpose beyond the date of warrenty , and quoting
"that your responsibilities under the Sales of Goods Act 1979 (amended) are not superseded by your own warranty, but that the warranty is in addition to our statutary rights as a consumer."
I guess its worth an email to JL.com consumer complaints dept ? They say they get back to you within 24 hours.0 -
You do NOT have to send any warranty card back to the retailer for the guarantee to be valid.
You would only have had to do this with the card and you would have had a confirmation sent back to you.0 -

and theres the rub- that last line. I wonder how many people once theyve sent of their guarantee activation actually watch out and notice if a confirmation notice comes in. To be honest I havent in the past, but I certainly will in future and make sure family does same. Thanks JMf0 -
What I mean is when you buy something threre is no need to send back any guarantee warranty card.
If YOU WANT TO RELY ON THE CARD INSURANCE THEN YOU NORMALLY HAVE TO REGISTER THE PRODUCT WITH THE CARD.0 -
jonesMUFCforever is correct. You don't have to send anything to Nationwide. You just call with the details of the thing you want to register, and they then send you a document detailing your policy number. All they ask is that you keep this document with the original warranty documentation, which for most things would just be the receipt or proof of purchase.
I've got a whole stack of them in a folder for every electrical item I've bought.0
