I see you're going to Oz too - is that for a holiday? Where & for how long are you going?

    Yup, 3 weeks in November:
2 days in Singapore, fly to Brisbane, 10 days on Sunshine Coast, weekend in Brisbane to watch the rugby league, 3 days to make our way to Sydney (we're hiring a car), 4 days in Sydney then fly home. I am sooooooooooo looking forward to it, November still feels like a lifetime away.
We're managing to save just over £650 a month at the mo, which means we should have over £5K saved by the time we go. My plan is to transfer most of it into my Nationwide Flex Account (no, they won't give me a debit card either ) & pay for as much as possible by cash.

You'll have £5,000 for a 3 week break? Makes me feel as though I wont have saved enough.....?!

That sounds like a fab trip!! November will be gorgeous weather too......

Glad I'm not the only one who cant have a debit card (apart from all the 12 year olds out there of course!!)

I've got a debit card. And I'm not 12. Well maybe only in mental age! :D

    :T :T :T You're talking sense for once ;) !!

I do have a debit card with Lloyds & a credit card, but Nationwide obviously werent happy with my credit score (and I cant blame them), but its annoying since I am now a reformed character. Doh!!

We'll have to pay for the car hire & most of the accommodation out of that £5K though. This is going to be a once in a lifetime, never to be repeated, grand scale affair. We don't want to be constantly saying "can we afford to do that?" or sacrificing one thing in favour of another. I don't imagine we'll spend all of it either - I'm not very good at "wasting" money. I'm reckoning on spending about £3K in total. It'll just be nice to have that buffer & not have to put anything on a credit card.
Nationwide won't give us a debit card because we don't pay our salaries into that account, it's an old current account from years ago that we kept open. My reply to them is that I won't pay my salary in to it until they give me a debit card - so stalemate!

Have you got a "ms_london goes to Oz" thread with all the details of your trip? I NEED to know all about it (cos I'm incredibly jealous) but don't want to hijack this thread any more.
BTW, what have I spent today - nothing so far & I intend it to stay that way.

Oh no - another expensive day.

I started work today after 6 months off, and found that I only had one pair of trousers that fit me (I've lost weight - yeah!). So I had to pop to town after work and pick up a couple of pairs in Primark. I also had to pick up so more bits and bobs, so a total of £25.82 today.

I did take lunch to work though so saved there.

Here's to a no spend day tomorrow.
