Is your partner no longer working?
if you are on benefits and partner still working, can't you trawl through the second hand shops, ok not many people like to do that, but if you have nothing, it's something until you can afford to replace things with better later on.0 -
No my partner is not working, we are claiming JSA together.
We do not have a car, so public transport is for us now, but because we live in the sticks lol It costs alot of money travelling....It even costs us £8.20 to get to the jobcentre for our sign on day...
I will put in my application today, does anyone know where I send it to?

Also, consider Gumtree freebies where people give away their stuff and see if there are any furniture charities in your local area - Citizens Advice may know of some if you have no luck via Google.
Emmaus offer discounted goods to those on benefits who provide proof about their status - their website will tell you if they have a shop nearby.0 -
Thank you very much for all your helpMarried the love of my life on 1st October 20110

the amounts given from ccg's seems to have no rhyme or reason- its just luck of the draw to be honest- my friend moved from refuge and got £600, i moved from refuge just after her and got £1200- we both have toddlers and older girls- go figure!
is there a british heart foundation furniture store near you? they sell furniture and electricals at reasonable prices, and i think they deliver.
re freecycle- if you see something you like, when you email teh person back explain your situation- some people may be willing to deliver for the cost of petrol- a couple of people have done for me in the past.
also, be aware that the dwp don't consider fridges and washing machines as essentials, and they will only pay for carpet for one room- this is what i was told anyway2011- new year, new start.
January 2011 g/c- £150

Yes they do, if the circumstances fit. For example, for an insulin dependent diabetic a fridge would be a neccessity. Depending on his circumstances, he could receive a CCG, a Crisis Loan or a budgeting loan. He would need to meet the criteria to receive the grant/loan; the directions have to be satisfied, regardless of his illness so being diabetic in itself would not qualify him. His need may take priority, where others may not as he depends upon insulin to keep him alive. A crisis loan would probably be the best bet for him though. Serious and immediate risk to his health and safety, and a quicker process.0 -
dont no if this will help but a few years ago, i was leaving my mam n dads home and moving into a rented propaty. i was claiming income support. also i had a 6 month old.
i also had nothink and claimed for most of the things you have down on your form. And i was awarded everythink.
if you look in the argos cat, and find the cheapest things you need in there and right that amount down. thats what i did anyway. hope this helps.savings for 2012.. New year new me.. Going to save save save... and not spend spend spend. :rotfl:
