Bung it in, no prep slow cooker recipes

I'm a bung-it-in slow cooker fan too.
My standard recipe is
a pack of Minced Beef
Packet of Basics Savoury Rice
Handful of Pearl Barley
Any cheap and cheerful veg - depending whats on offer in Lidl / Aldi - any combination of onions, carrot, swede, leeks or peppers
A tin of chopped tomatoes
Any odds and ends of spices - chilli, paprika, soy sauce, last bit out the bottom of the ketchup bottle etc
Enough water to cover
Leave to cook on low - can be left all day if you work
Stir in a tin of diced Basics corned beef about half an hour before serving
Makes 8 - 10 gnerous portions ..great for freezing too.:heartpuls The best things in life aren't things :heartpuls

Actually I do remember from Jamie's ministry of food book (which i must admit i rather like), he doesnt advocate browning meat for his stews; so i'd have thought whether oven or SC, the same principle must apply...?On the up

Was watching Oprah the other day and a chef on there said the biggest moneysaver to help you through the recession was a slow cooker - but we all knew that didnt we
I too am a convert and throw everything in but mince - I always brown it first. Think I may bag and freeze some onions, great idea get it all done at once then.

Hi all, thanks so much for all of the posts, I've got some great ideas here!
I am all for things like tinned plum toms and frozen ingredients, I just cannot stand the taste of jar type sauces, they just taste either really bland, really odd, or just taste plain weird... I really like the idea of frozen onions, but I admit I would probably end up buying the predone type!
I have an intellichef which I treated myself to when my old slow cooker broke... and I have to say it's great to be able to fry things off all in the same pot, but wanted the bung it in recipes as I cannot even cope with frying in the morning, just wanted to press start!!
Thanks again,0
