bank charges

I have been charged about £1000.00 in charges on my current account for exceeding my o/d facility even though I have always had in excess of £11000.00 in my savings account. Has anyone got any suggestions on who to contact about this.

thanx

Was this over a short period of time?
    Have you asked the bank?

    A brain surgeon?

Or at least someone that can teach you to control your finances.

    Was that really necessary?

    Shame on you.

    Q_Graphic.gif I haven't yet put in a claim, what should I do?
    A. Hold off for the moment and see what happens with the Office of Fair Trading (OFT). Even if it doesn't take the case up we will produce new guidance on how to try to reclaim - ensure you're getting the free weekly e-mail where we will publish an update as soon as possible.

Q_Graphic.gif How likely is it I will get my money back?
    A. Much less likely than prior to the Supreme Court result, but not impossible. Still, the best thing to do is plan for getting nothing, but cross your fingers.

Yes it was necessary. Banks are not there to control your finances for you. Bank charges are also not unlawful.

If you have £10k in one account and are frequently going over your limit in the other then the real problem is a lack of personal control of your finances. The bank charges are a by product of that but are not the problem.

The comment was still unnnecessary since the obvious response was the one that Premier has pointed the OP to and a brain surgeon would not be able to deal with the person's queries for bank charges unless he happened to be a dual bank manager as well.
Bank charges are currently not unlawful but they may still be challengeable as a whole on fairness....but until we know the opinion of the OFT since the Supreme Court did not say that bank charges can never be challenged for fairness, simply that they could not be challenged under regulation 6.2(b).

Clearly ''A brain surgeon'' is an insult and as such unnecessary. It doesn't get anymore complicated than that..

It isnt complicated to control your bank account either. Especially when you are not in financial difficulty.

You can often sympathise with people that are struggling but when its just laziness then its hard to be sympathetic.

Worringly, I find myself agreeing with dustonh. I might need that brain surgeon myself if this carries on.

Given that we don't know the full circumstances, it's unlikely that £1000 of charges happened overnight, and yet clearly being in the fortunate position of being able to do something about it, the OP just let them build up.
