                    Hi,
We have an oldish freestanding garage which I'd like to store things in but can't because they get damp. (Don't use it for the car.)
It's got a couple of small holes in the walls but the main thing is that it's an earth floor. The roof is sound.
Could you suggest some cost-effective ways of making it dry? Someone suggested putting gravel down on the floor - would this work?
Thanks in advance.

I don't think gravel would work unless you lay down a waterproof membrane first. And then the gravel would just penetrate the membrane anyway.
If you have access to the full outside perimeter, then I'd suggest a French Drain. (Look on internet for details). Hard work but relatively cheap. But you would still need somewhere for the water to drain to, so a lot would depend on the terrain in the immediate vicinity.0

Thanks Grumps, will look into putting in a French drain.0
