There is no point in updating your MB drivers or especially the BIOS for these issues. You say you changed hardware a while ago and it was fine until recently. You don't have any hardware conflicts then.
It will be due to either a windows update or as repeatedly mention the browser. Try a different browser first and make sure you do a virus/malware/spyware scan.

seems chrome has cured the problem. cant find the drop down on the address bar now though on chrome to select web addresses????

That feature is part of your web history, in chrome you start typing and it will appear below

Also that same bar, is the search bar, ie if you type anything but a web address, it searches google.

One thing to consider is to "unchrome" chrome (google it)

As by default, google monitors your browser usage (nobody knows what thye monitor and do with it) by tracking your unique browser ID

Unchrome removes this ID and replaces it with 0's

Its just something you want to do if you hold privacy dearly.

BTW never update your BIOS unless A) you know what you are doing and B) you really need to. Trying to update your BIOS and messing it up is an excellent way of trashing your PC.
It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die

I second that. The most likely/realistic reason to update a BIOS is to add newer CPU support or recognised I/O stability issues as recomended by the manufacturer. In 10 years I only ever flashed one machine and I have been near a few PC/laptop combinations I can safely say.

Thirded... don't try and update the BIOS, not necessary for this problem. Although the procedure is no longer as risky as it used to be . It's much harder to epically fail and ruin the computer these days.

It is on good quality boards. I recently flashed my Gigabyte board through Windows which felt completely wrong but worked a treat.

However the OP's board isn't even registering a manufacturer in cpu-z so it's probably a budget board and is more liklely to use the more traditional and risky methods.
