electric underfloor heating

  • Hi - I got my bathroom floor done a few years ago when I got my whole bathroom made over (my bathroom is 20ft long and about 12ft wide) and it's nice and warm now when it's on. My underfloor heating runs straight off my combination boiler though rather than electric so doesn't really add to costs as it acts like radiators, so heats up with the rest of the heating system.

Beware of which tiles you buy though - I was advised that some tiles won't conduct the heat and so you need to check when buying.

    Hope this helps

  • We were in a rented house for a year, it had electric underfloor heating in the kitchen. Admittedly it was a pretty big kitchen in a very old house, but we got a shock when after 6 months we got a bill saying we owed the electricity company £800 - in addition to the £70 per month direct debit we'd been paying ! We turned the heating off sharpish and took to wearing anoraks in the kitchen :-)

Maybe it was a duff installation, but it's been enough to put me off the idea for life !
  • Although underfloor heating is expensive initially, the running costs should be lower as you will be using less energy to heat the space for a given temperature at lower levels. Radiators send all their heat straight to less useful areas - directly up the walls to the ceiling of the room!
