Hi there moneysavers,
Need some advice!
I found a new job in Bristol (Patchway) but I am not femiliar with the area or have any friends there, I prefer a quite countryside location with up to 30 minutes drive.
I neeed few tips where to start and look?
We are a young couple in our mid 30's with no kids but really like a fast access to nature and the countryside.
We are thinking of renting first and than sell our current semi (Warrington) and buy in 30 miles radius of Bristol later on. We can probably go up to £160k.
Does any one here from Bristol who knows which areas to avoid and where can we have good access routes to work and to the near countryside?
I will appreciate any help as I can't make sense of sites like upmystreet.com

Bradley Stoke and Little Stoke are ok (as Bristol goes) and close to Patchway, both are very close to the M4/M5 intersection so you'll have no trouble getting away............Thornbury and Yate are close too (a bit more out in the country )..........................both are ok but everywhere has its problem areas
hope that helps:D0 -
Bristol- Genearally a very safe city. I don't know all of the city, but here are my opinions on a few areas:
Avoid:
St Paul's
Fishponds
Heartcliffe
Knowle West (in fact all of knowle)
Nice areas:
Clifton/ Whiteladies area (Very pricey though)
Long Ashton
Portishead
Clevedon
Dundury (Nice as you're right on the edge of south Bristol, but just minutes away from the beautiful Chew Valley and not far from Cheddar, Wells, Burrington Coombe, etc. Might be a bit of a pain for the work commute though).
OK areas:
Frenchay
Yate
Whitchurch (see Dundury)
Thornbury
Stoke Park

Is Bleadon near Weston Super Mare any good?
What are the house prices like in this region?
I think it is about 40 minutes from Bristol, is that correct?0 -
I would suspect it would be more than 40 mins from north bristol at rush hour. Cant comment on the area as I lived in Filton when I was in Bristol. Not too bad but a bit to close to Southmead which can be fairly rough. All posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

Thanks for all the info, please keep posting on more areas, can anyone comment on where are the traffic black spots around Bristol (not in the city itself)?
It is looking like coming from the North to Patchway is easier than commuting from the South of the City. What about looking on the other side of the river in Wales? Is commuting from there is a problem? On my map here Cheapstow is only 20 minute drive, is it any good?
Any help is deeply appreciatedFive exclamation marks the sure sign of an insane mind!!!!!

Almondsbury, Thornbury are quite nice and you can whip straight down the A38 to get into Patchway, also North Yate is quite nice and then out a bit more is the village of Horton, or out more is Wickwar and Wotton Under Edge but thats further again but still very nice.0

Bristol, top city, lived there for a bit, the one place id go to if I quit london tbh. Living centrally in Bristol is certainly a pleasent experience and Id recommend it, loved the way you could essentially walk anywhere from anywhere else and home again (all those hills keep you fit
!). Traffic too bad for cars, and it was nice to be freed from them tbh.
A nicely chilled city, good vibes, friendly, has its probs for sure but not that I noticed. So much going on in such a smal space, great music, club, etc scene.
Cant comment on the outer areas, all seemed deathly boring and grim to me but being a bit older maybe thats what you want right now, id be tempted to go no further than the outer edges myself but lets be honest 160k aint gonna go far im afraid.
All the best for ya move.Debt: a bloomin big mortgage

hi
we shifted to bristol last winters some comments on the area
its a very very very busy city (traffic wise)
where ever you stay its busy it has got new houses being built everywhere
only 2 or 3 good state run schools
rest private schools all are in the city centre
so its a busy time in the morning and evening
any other views u want cn ask thanks0 -
Countryside around Bristol is lovely but the roads in and out are sloooow....I live down the A37 and it looks like a simple straightforward drive, but it is in and out of villages, all 30 mile speed limits, and there are about 5 speed cameras on the way. And I believe parking in Bristol is also a nightmare, so unless your job comes with parking, then it could be both expensive and difficult!0

Yate & Chipping Sodbury (within 1/2 mile of each other) are worth a shout, about 30 mins from Patchway and accesible to great countryside including the Cotswolds. 15 mins from the M4 and the M5 junction, type in BS37 in the right move website.
