E7 / 10 other heaters???????

Advice please. Currently on E7 SH but as previous posts comment they leak heat and basically warm empty house when all at work. Come home heat low or on last legs so supplement with electric fire.
Currently on npower juice can't remember tarriff cost just now, so mean average will have to do to calculate. Based on "Cardew's" average usage for 3 bed semi would I be better,
Staying as I am
Moving to E10 that gives 3 periods of cheap heat or
Go on to normal/standard tarriff and
Getting new heaters that have timers that I can control when and for how long I have them on. Realise that "norm" tarriff when on E7/10 is more than the standard tarriff. So would one outweigh the others?

Thanks

  • I'd at least investigate the possibility of E10 in your area. We are able to keep our house warm throughout the day with E10 and avoid using too much electricity by turning the storage heaters off for some of the charge periods (we only use our lounge in the evenings so that heater doesn't charge at night, only in the afternoon).

My husband is in all day though, if you only use the house at night you may be better just on the cheapest standard tarriff with some cheapo fan heaters and timer switches.

It depends, think about what your ideal would be, I wouldn't want to leave the house unheated all day and come home to a chilled house in the evening if I had gas central heating so I content myself with letting the "leakage" from the storage heaters keep the house at a basic level of warmth over night and during the day.

If you have no heat for evening what settings are you using on your heaters? Are you turning output right down when you go to bed and leaving it down until you get home in the evening? If not try this, and maybe up the input a bit so that there is enough heat left for evenings.

The other thing to do is to improve the general insulation of your house. If you have drafts your storage heaters will chill too quickly.

Thanks for reply. Will look into E10 as, like you say you get an afternoon "boost" to the SH. Only problem is, have heard that E10 is hard to come by in certain areas. Will also look to see if standard tarriff with cheap heaters and timers is a cheaper viable way. For info SH set at max imput / min output, rooms are warm when come home from work but need to use electric fire in evening just for that bit extra till bedtime 11-1200.
