Windows Vista and Bluetooth problem

Can anyone please offer any suggestions as to how I can solve my Bluetooth problem?

I can install the software and insert my dongle and everything works fine. I can access all the features of my phone including connecting to the Internet.

The problem is when I restart my machine, if the dongle is still in the usb socket Windows freezes during start-up. If I leave it out Windows locks up as soon as it is inserted.

Any help much appreciated.

thats why it a beta things mite and will not work right every time ,you could try puting it one of the back usbs just an idea
there or their, one day i might us the right one ,until then tuff

  • i agree with banger,
the current release of vista is full of bugs. the only thing i can suggest is go back to xp. purely because as you carry on using vista you will find more and more things go wrong.

dont forget that the idea of a beta is for people to test and report back any problems so they can fix them.

I know its only in Beta so I have installed it to dual boot with my original XP. I was just hoping that someone more techie than me would be able to suggest possible solutions to the problem.

What type of bluetooth adapter is it?? How long have you left the machine "Locked Up" before restarting?? What drivers are you using (original or newer downloaded)??

ive said this before, and no doubt i will be saying it again. If you want to avoid problems like this, wait at least 4/5 months after the release of a new OS... that way the internet will be filled with problems and solutions (mostly on forums) you jsut have to search the problem.

saves a lot of hassle in the long run.

I see you're not getting the most helpful of suggestions, or they're at least not answering your original question.

I'd go with Scooter on this one. What driver are you using? Did Windows pick up the device automatically via it's on driver library, or did you install a driver yourself?

So this only works/worked the very first time upon installing the drivers?

Given that it's freezing upon boot, sounds like a possible driver problem, or something isn't able to initialise properly. May be worth googling the make/model of bluetooth adapter, check that it's compatible with that version of Vista.

Windows doesn't recognise it as new hardware when it's first plugged in. I'm using the Widcomm software that came with the dongle which works fine under xp. Can't find much help on google. It's an InstantPan BTU01A. I assume it's a generic one - I got it off ebay.
