Hello I was wondering if anyone could suggest a good place to buy party decorations from I need them for the 2nd January for a surprise 50th Party. So far thought they all seem quite expensive for what they are I also can not decide if I should get a helium canister and inflate the balloons myself has anyone used this method? as I have been advised it can be quite difficult to do so far the party has been done on a reasonable budget and I really do not want to spend a £100.00 on balloons and plates !

Thanks

Home Bargains often has party stuff very cheap though my personal experience stretches as far as Lazytown party bagsm, hats etc from 29p each.

Doing the balloons yourself isn't hard - I helped my BIL for SIL's 40th - I don't recommend doing it in the garge though in winter as I couldn't even feel my fingers! It was a surprise but as she wasn't home we could have done it indoors and then hidden them in the garage!

  • I got a canister and balloons for £25 from asda. Matalan now sell party stuff, and ebay can be quite cheap as you can get a big personalised banner then use lots of general ones. Have a look round now for paper streamers and buy them cheap then use them for birthday decs.
The canister did really well, I put 2 chairs back 2 back and the canister on a table then i inflated the balloons till they touched the chairs, that way they were all the right size, I also went for the small size balloon, the ribbon comes in the pack tie 3 together at different heights for a good look. I brought some organza bags(about£2) from ebay filled them with sweets from a tin left from xmas, and used these as weights. I also got a long piece of fishing line tied the balloons to it and made an arch over the DJ stand.
Its really easy takes about and hour but try and do it as close to the party as poss (an hour before) Otherwise you will have to buy a special gel which is quite expensive to keep them looking good for while. At the end of the party we gave the balloons and sweets to the kids they were thrilled!
