Natwest Maintenance charges

Hi. I was wondering if I could get any help with this.
I have an account at Natwest and went into overdraft at the end of July of -£22.54 and since then I have been charged 4 times. The first charge was understandable but with the second charge, they deducted £28 leaving me with a second overdraft. I called them up and they told me if I had a minimum of £40 in my account by the 12th Nov, I would not be charged any further. However they lied and recently I've been charged £20 for a maintenance charge and have no idea why and if they will still continue to charge me for no reason.
Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Lied, or simply made a mistake?
Contact them and see what they say about the lie/error. Much better than spending time creating a brand new user account on MSE and asking people who can't do anything about it.
Once you get a response, then post on MSE if you need further advice

A maintenance charge usually goes out 21 days after your statement date and is for the previous statement period. Do you get paperless statements or do you receive paper statements?
When did you speak to an advisor from NatWest?
The £20 is still the maintenance charge which went down and was for the month of October/November since it was the new lower charge.
Check your accounts and re post up and then we can see what further advice can be given.0 -
I get the paperless statements due to online banking and turned off the paper statements.
I spoke to a Natwest advisor mid/end of October about the second charge and that's when I was advised to pay in a minimum of £40 by 12th Nov, still being charged and that would be the end of it. I also spoke to an advisor yesterday regarding the fourth charge and I was told it was a maintenance charge (which I knew) and to check my monthly statements but I wasn't told why I was still being charged when I've made the payments for the overdraft etc. I also asked if I would be charged again and the advisor said to check my next month's statement, without being given a 'yes' 'no' answer
so now I have a feeling that I'm going to be charged AGAIN in mid Jan for this months charge and I'm stuck on how to prevent that. _pale_
ps. I thought I would create an account so I could get some advice from people who know what they're on about and would be more helpful than the advisors at the bank.0 -

ok, what day is your statement date?
If you have an overdraft limit then you need to see when you went over it. For example, if your statement date is 1st of the month then for the whole of the month if you are within the overdraft then you do not get charged for being in excess of it. However if you go over it then 21 days after the statement date so effectively 21st of the following month you would be charged a maintenance fee. Furthermore, I know that recent changes to natwest online banking has meant that they AUTOMATICALLY opted you out of paper statements, the cheaky gits(nearly caught me out not just once but twice over the last few months).
I hope the above is helpful and allows you to work out for yourself how it works. There should be a notification ONLINE when you go into your account about charges due to go out.0 -
I'm sorry, but I think the bank staff themselves will be best able to advise you why you were promised no further charges would be made and then they charged you....ps. I thought I would create an account so I could get some advice from people who know what they're on about and would be more helpful than the advisors at the bank.

Thank You very much for the advice. You have both been helpful. I've just contacted the bank again and sorted it out with a much nicer and helpful advisor, they are giving my money back and apparently I will not be charged again. I just hope that's the end of it.... :S0
