can i fit a kitechens - b&q it drawer box in a cooke & lewis cabinet

as it says, I want one coloured open cabinet in my cheapo b&q it kitchen, but I want a drawer in the top of it.

Best way I can see of doing this is to buy one cooke and lewis coloured cabinet and fit a b&q cheap it range drawer box to it with my matching cheap it drawer front.

Is this going to work? My b&q is useless and the designer very unhelpful.

I think most units would be a standard size, so it should fit.

  • Yes it will fit but if you can get some soft closure drawers do. Ive been fitting a B&Q IT kitchen today and think the standard drawers are very poor
  • thank you both
steve - have you seen the new "soft close drawer adaptor" which they are selling for £8 per drawer? How does this compare with the proper prestige soft close drawers which are very expensive?
  • No I havent seen them. Could be worth giving them a go. If you dont like them just take them back.Im sure they will refund.

An IT would 'fit', but you are better to buy a C&L one as it is softclose by standard, is more sturdy, a better base and quiet runners.

You would be refunded if you returned the item.

    Cooke & Lewis is B&Q
  • Fitted the soft close adaptors today. not very impressed with them. just made out of cheap plastic. Cant see them lasting to long
  • So the it with soft close adaptor is rubbish.
I already asked b&q about using an it drawer front on a c&l drawer box and they said they couldnt say whether or not it would fit (useless people).
So am now left with the option of a dearer prestige it drawer box in c&l cabinet, which they say will fit. What do you think - is this the best plan?
  • Hopefully not too late to answer for you!

I work on the kitchens department at B&Q and can tell you that the IT and Cooke & Lewis drawer boxes are ever so slightly different.

If you try putting an IT soft close (Prestige) drawer box in a Cooke and Lewis carcass, it wont actually fit in properly due to the fact that the opening is slightly narrower on Cooke & Lewis as the carcass is 18mm as opposed to 16mm on the IT carcasses and thus reducing the inner width of the carcass ever so slightly.

The difference is minimal but I know this first hand as I do a few repairs on the displays and attempting to use a prestige box on a cooke & lewis kitchen but failing lol!
  • arggghhhhh!!!

they told me it was fine, they even said the it drawers would be okay but prestige better.

so next option is, will my it kitchens drawer front fit onto a c&l drawer box in a c&l carcass?

    I asked b&Q and they don't know!!!!!!!!!!
