I can't believe the amount of trolls on MSE recently! Maybe trolls are more likely to be bad with money but you can't move without posters trying to cause arguments and make silly , unhelpful comments towards people.

It's not just the trolls though. a minority of established members do this too:mad:

I was just thinking this OP. There seems to be a lot of people who comment on threads simply to be mean, unhelpful and/or downright rude.

There are also those who feel it necessary to patronise others by pointing out and 'correcting' spelling and grammar mistakes.

I suddenly felt the need to rant about this, so I'm glad I found this thread. :o

Every successful forum attracts people with major personality problems, who want to bring others down. Most manage to be insulting and belittling while staying just withing the forum rules, and therefore can't be got rid of. A few do cross the line and can be banned - usually only to return with another username.

This is the problem with the internet: bitter, cowardly little nobodies hiding behind a screen in the safety of their own home, saying things they'd never dream of saying face to face.
Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.

Just in case anyone does not know - There is an option under USER CP to place someone on your "Ignore" list, and you will not see their posts - good or bad.

  • The best thing is just to ignore posts like that and not reply. If everyone well meaning did that, then it wouldn't be an issue. They thrive from people getting peed off. Just think they don't know who you are, so you cant take it personally

Well if people didnt post stupid posts then I would think there wouldnt be half the snide responses.

Posts like "How much compensation can I get" when they have had a item replaced and everything is now working

""My bank has charged me for going overdrawn but I put the money in at 5pm the day of the DD coming out"

"Itransferred £200 pound to the wrong account and the bank wont give me the money back"

Also a big gripie is people who do not search the forum first for answers and then post. Serves them right IMHO

I also think a lot of people on here use the term troll wrongly too
  • Yes some questions are silly, but obviously not to the person posting. Snide remarking people wouldn't speak to people like that in real life (maybe some lol)

    this comes to mind:

I was called a troll on a thread last week and I relaised how horrible MSE must be for new users when faced with cliquey type threads as my old name was well established.
I do think ignoring trolls is the only way but have started suspecting two long termish posters of being trolls. Sad really as I always treated both as genuine but I guess it's a hobby for some:confused:
