Lowcostholidays/flyglobespan query

I booked a holiday through lowcostholidays in October and took out insurance through them for the holiday

However today I received an email
Dear Customer,
The paperwork that has been sent to you for your booking was incorrect.
Your supplier/carrier is flyglobespan.com, therefore, as a low cost airline; we
act as intermediary only and your flight is not protected under the ATOL of AVRO
who are a separate company.
Please accept my apologies for this error on the original paperwork sent.
Regards,
Grant Saunders

Should I be alarmed?

flyglobespan have Atol and an Air Operator Certificate, so you should be covered by that . But surely the whole point of insurance is to make sure you won't lose out if anything goes wrong. I'd check the terms of your insurance policy.

Glopespan's ATOL will only cover package holidays booked with them. By the sound of it the only booking you have with Globepsan is for the flight it is highly unlikely you are protected. As of now they are undoubtably in some difficulty, if you paid by credit card you should be OK for refunds but if you book holidays as two separate contracts and one part disappears, you might end up having to rebook with another airline at a higher price

Keep the original paperwork that said you were covered, it could be that the insurer heard Globespan are in trouble (went into adminstration today) and are trying to get out of your claim.

Call the FSA and ask if you are covered in the case of an "error" - in my view if a business made an error then that's their fault and they have to "take the hit"

    FSA = 0845 080 1800

It's worth a try. Also did you pay by credit card - if so call the cc company and ask if your purchase was covered by them.

    Good luck

  • I had good reason to be alarmed lol

Anybody else in this situation, and book a holiday with lowcost holidays?
  • Hi,

I had booked a holiday in December with them and got the same email on the day the bankruptcy was announced, paid by debit card and haven't still got any money back.

Wondering if anyone had another experience?

    Thanks
  • Hello

I hope you don’t mind me posting on your thread.

I work for an advertising company in London (Wieden+Kennedy, on behalf of Visit Wales), and am currently on a mission to find a British family (with kids aged 8-18yrs) who’ve had a negative holiday experience abroad – and then to send them on an all-expenses paid trip to Wales, and film their trip for an online documentary and some TV adverts. They’ll visit Michelin-starred restaurants, enjoy amazing outdoors pursuits and relax on the many beautiful beaches that Wales has to offer.

If this is something that would interest you – or anyone you know who has had a similarly negative holiday experience - then please get in touch and I can tell you a little more about it. I can be reached at tom.latter@wk.com.

    All the best,

    tom
