Computer being a bit weird.

Would greatly appreciate any help.All of a sudden this site is in a more basic mode. For instance I click on quote and get weird stuff like
on every line, and when I click on user name there are less options, and when I click on those who have thanked me it takes me to the top of the page.That is not too bad, but am also suddenly unable to log into sites like facebook, or ASDA. When I enter username and password it just says searching for cookies and stays blank without entering the site.Any ideas? I can just about find my cookies (1000s of them), but no idea what to do if that is the problem.Once again, would appreciate any advice.

More weirdness. The above was posted as separate paragraphs but are now one block.I am also unable to log into hotmail or googlemail.

Try clearing the cookies, if there are thousands of them. What browser are you using? if it's IE, go to Tools, Internet Options and clear all your Temporary Internet Files, Cookies and the History.

Thanks. Just cleared 4,850 cookies! Using IE8? Still cannot get into Gmail or ASDA, just enter details and get a blank non-responding screen, although MSE did let me back in without any trouble. Going to do a disk clean up and defrag just for the sake of it.But cannot find Internet Options, Temporary Internet Files or History, even by searching or going into Accessories...System Tools. No doubt they are somewhere obvious I should know about.

Sorry, I should have made it clearer. When you have IE8 open, at the top of the browser you'll see Tools. Click that and select Internet Options, then find the Delete button. I forgot it's changed from the IE6 I'm on at the moment.

Cheers for that. Have done that and going to restart and continue defragging. So far only 5% defragged in an hour! Not too confident it will all suddenly work, so any more suggestions very welcome.

Defraging is not going to help you. If any of the previous did not help try resetting Internet Option to factory settings:

control panel/internet options/advanced/reset/tick everything

Do you have an antivirus? Can you run a full system scan?

Thanks. Defragging didn't make a difference. Neither did resetting Internet Option to factory setting, and I ran a virus check. But with all the file and cookie clearing the PC is running faster than ever. The problem remains; I try to log into websites at the password stage, enter my details, and either get a permanent loading screen, or the enter button does not respond. A couple of message boards are still having trouble as well. Any further ideas would be welcomed, as we cannot access most websites we need.

Tried Gmail again. Managed to get in by pressing basic HTML button. Also found I can enter words in a YouTube search, but pressing the search button doesn't do anything. It's like it is that last final button to launch anything doesn't work.

Finally figured out Java was not working properly in IE, and tried to switch it on manually without success. So solved the problem by installing Firefox as my browser, and now everything works fine. Will worry about fixing IE & Java another day.
