hygiene certificate? thanks in advance for any tips! just thinking of doing one on a saturday morning and maybe part of the day only at mo. thanks

On the last course I went on there were even people from school breakfast clubs and all they are making is cereal and toast
The courses are only about 6 hours long and both the material and test fairly basic.
AFAIK for private companies they aren't compulsory however sending all staff who come into contact with food on the course is a good idea because:
- for the time and cost it isn't a big deal
- although covering fairly obvious stuff to anyone who has worked in catering there are a lot of people who don't even think about the very basics
- you keep your customers healthy
- if something was to happen training backed up by recognised certificates is nearly always the best way to defend yourself
Also call your local council environmental health department and they can decide if they want to register and inspect your premises...this is compulsory. There are certain due diligence procedures you have to have in place, luckily the food standards agency provide a pack that allows you to easily implement them (stuff like logging the fridge temperature at the start and end of every shift).0
