What are the best thermal socks

I have been told that a relative wants a really good pair of socks for under work boots, they would need to be extremely warm as he spends a lot of time outside.
Is there a really good brand? A lot say thermal; but is there one that stands out as being better than the rest?
cheers

Have a look at military ones
Funnily enough I have just asked for some sea boot socks for Christmas, I am ex Navy and these were always just the job
No doubt army etc have similar requirementsEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -

Go for a good thick pair that are 100% wool... something like these http://www.manufactum.co.uk/Produkt/193770/1400795/Lambswoolwellingtonsocks.htmlTOP MONEYSAVING TIP
Make your own Pot Noodles using a flower pot, sawdust and some old shoe laces. Pour in boiling water, stir then allow to stand for two minutes before taking one mouthful, and throwing away. Just like the real thing!0 -
Thanks for the replies, I also did a bit of searching on the internet and came across these

They are 4.99 so I will be buying a pair of those.0 -
I completely agree with SCBK
Bridgedale are absolutely brilliant socks. Everyone I've bought them for is a convert. And they last for years. Just try to remember not to put them in the tumble dryer. They have some wool content, and while they don't shrink as such they do become a bit tight. You can probably pick a pair up for about a tenner, but they are a sound investment as they last for years, and don't owe you anything when they eventually die.

If you visit a garden show there in the outdoor clothing tents - you will get at sell out prices on good quality brands including long socks for welly boots , I paid about £1-99 a pair for cushion socks (towel loop weave) knee high type and this was in 2008- I am sitting here with them on . Plus a bodywarmer that will take a days work ,Also look in at a country store for offers .0

i've been wearing Primark's Ladies Ski/Thermal Socks (knee-high) that comes in a pack of 2 for £2. i wear another pair of thin socks underneath, and these have been keeping my feet v toasty in this chilly frosty weather we've been having..
btw, i have pairs of Brasher socks (£10) which i wear for walking and these are really soft and comfortable, but i wouln't want these ruined for everyday wear tho...0 -
I'd also go for Bridgedale. I've tried lots of different ones. The Brashers are warm but I find they squeeze a bit too much for me.
The Bridgedale are the warmest and longest lasting I've had. I use the mid-weight ones as I don't like the real heavy-weights. I did have a pair of the heavies for my wellies one year but found them too thick and dense. Warm though!0 -
M&S thick thermal socks good too.
I've bought thermal liner socks - good value in asda - 3prs for £5 or £7, bit dearer in M&S or camping stores. My oh wears them under wool/thick socks, and they are fab. Tesco do some great British socks, 2prs for £5 or £7. put the liners inside these and you have toasty feet. We spend lots of time outdoors and I really recommend them as an alternative to thick thermal socks.Debt at highest: £8k. Debt Free 31/12/2009. Original MFD May 2036, MF Dec 2018.0
