Hassle from Logic group debt recovery - advice sought please

Hi,
Took a call from Logic today about my 'account' with them, i pay them 50 pound a month standing order,
The guy today wanted to know (in his own words) what ive done about settling the whole balance (2500). I said i have no extra money available at the moment other than the 50 i pay you each month.
Then he says well have you tried to get a loan to pay? i said well no, thats why ive got this debt in the 1st place
Then he says ill have to try (in his own words again) the loan companys which arent high street which are advertised.shocked at his financial advice i just said well er erm, whatever.

anyway he says he'll leave my account open (whatever that means) till next friday so i can try to get a loan.
obviously ive no intention to get a loan to pay them off but is this kind of intimidation allowed by this mob?
What will i say next time they phone ?

any advice appreaciated

In short no its totally unacceptable and in direct breach of OFT guidelines, report these monkeys to the OFT & trading standards for the shocking tactics.

Only ever deal with these people via letter, never talk to them on the phone, if they do phone make clear that you will only ever respond to written communication, if that fails I suggest you just leave the phone on the side and make a nice cup of tea, or invest in a shiny new whistle!!

    Item 2.5

    b. Pressuring debtors to sell property, or raise funds by further borrowing

    d. pressurising debtors to pay in full, in unreasonably large installments, or to increase payments when they are unable to do so.

Thanks, ill have a look at OFT and trading standards websites,

also about the phone thing, well i gave them my mob number because they kept phoning my workplace which caused me great embarrasment , god knows how they got hold of my works number.

forgot to say in original post everything was fine until i missed 2 payments to them,as soon as i missed the 2nd payment i payed them over the phone too catch up,
since then ive been getting these type of calls, today was the worst one though.

edit thanks very much filewizard thats great stuff

    Try this http://www.oft.gov.uk/NR/rdonlyres/50F06527-9FC5-4610-B385-999D6E2A8950/0/oft664.pdf

    You are under no obligation to give them any sort of number, anything they have to say to you can be said in a letter, the only reason they like to call is to use their pathetic bully boy tactics ( as I am sure you are aware) , I always find it amazing that;

    a) They have trained these monkeys how to use phones, and
    b) That they actually manage to dial the number with their knuckles scraping along the ground !

Report them to trading standards yes. theres every chance that these muppets will get hauled over the coals, and there just MAY be a little chance that they are not properly registered or other tax evasion purposes and may not be a legitimate company. they have broken the law by pressurising you to get a loan as FW says, the OFT & trading standards NEED to know about this sort of behaviour so that they can regulate the rogues in the market. CONSUMER REVENGE and all that.
Should you tell them youve reported? Maybe maybe not? Entirely up to you. Dpeends on whether you think you would have more grief from them in the long run, either/ or.

If they call you tell them you will only deal with them in writing, and if they insist on phoning you you can take them to court for harassment, if you wanted. but youd have to have a strong case, ie lots of evidence. PUt it in writing that you wont speak to them on the phone send "signed for" it costs a quid 2nd class :)[/QUOTE]

I'd ask for all contact to be by letter only in the future, ask that all contact telephone numbers they have for you to be wiped from their files. Tell them that any further telephone contact is denied as is your right and any further telephone calls will be reported to OFT and treated as harrassment.
Notify them of all this by letter (keep copies) ASAP, don't wait for them to ring back. Tell them that pressurising you to take out a loan to pay off the debt is illegal and any further contact of that sort will be reported. The recent telephone call you have received from them has been logged and will be used as evidence if neccessary.
  • ask them to contact by letter only they will not take any notice so you do it by letter and just hang up, let them ring untill the cows come home any legal or financial matter should be done in writing dont enter in to phone chit chat

I inform all those who am in 'trouble' with that I only take written responses but they don't listern. I place a sentance in each letter stating 'written replies only' but they ring my work and my mobile I just ignore them, so much so am going to change my mobile number, I moved home recently so they haven't got a new landline number plus a don't answer them phone at work and told my collegues to tell them that I left. I wrote to one company saying I've gone to Australia for the next 3 months so at the moment am not stressed out as I use to be. I'm clearing lesser debts so by the time 'I return from Oz' I can restart my payments and repay them at a higher amount.

I don't believe they should hound you like they do, if you agree to repay a set amount each month then they should stick to that. I'd get a dictorphone and tape your conversation with him next time he rings you and gives you grief.
