Abbey 7% saving acc

I've just followed the link at the start of this thread and it looks like the offer has now ended, or atleast it's web presence has dissapeared. Can anyone confirm if it's still possible to start one of these accounts over the phone/counter?--

Damn... Only just seen about this. It looks like the offer has changed to a 5% interest from the 7%... :-( (not worthwhile now..)
Has anyone tried to open one over the counter, I'm going to try on Friday...

I just opened one in branch this lunchtime...they said that it was true it was being withdrawn on Saturday.
They had application forms in branch, but you can still find them on the Abbey website, put 'fixed monthly' into the search box and there is a pdf application form in the search results - this is what I used to open the account without any problems.0 -
I also opened one in branch today.
Abbey have stopped advertising the product on their website but the branch I went to still had the 7% marketing poster in the window! Was taken through the account opening no problems.
Get in there quick!!0 -
Thanks Fatboy_NSS. One is in my name and the other in my husbands. I am now gutted as I worked out the interest all wrong. I worked it out as follows:
£6000 (yearly amount in there) / 100 times 7 (as the account is at 7%) = £420
£4800 (yearly amount in there) / 100 times 7 (as the account is at 7%) = £336
As I can see from your calculations, I got it seriously wrong.0 -
Yes I am loads of problems opening an Abbey 7% account. I had to fill in the application form twice back in October. The account is now opened BUT the standing order I set up hasn't been processed which effectively means I lose my 7% rate.
I opened a postal ISA around the same time and had to fill in the application form twice. Once again the standing order wasn't processed despite me phoning several times and being promised an application form for set up would be sent. Nothing was sent. I'm not happy with them at all.:rotfl:  _party_ :grouphug: Laughing all the way...:EasterBun :kisses3:0 -
hobbes, if the standing order wasnt set up because it was abbeys fault the acc will automatically convert to monthly saver - unfortunately our systems are not able to allow them to be changed back to an acc once it has been reissued,
you will however be allowed to open another FRMS in the circumstances. you will need to go back down to a branch but they will allow another one to be opened.
hope that helps0 -
Hobbes, quite agree with you. Not happy with Abbey at all either. Customer service is terrible, you wait 5 months to receive refund of fraudulent transactions that took place, no response from complaints department, problems with ISA's and to top it all their top man at Banco Santander is being investigated !!! Don't know why you have all bothered - total incompetence from Abbey. Halifax had the same offer on which I opened in October. Didn't even consider Abbey because of all this....0

Well Fixed Rate Monthly Saver is over and the ISA delays are over (although this was always to the customers' advantage) so hopefully the Abbey bashing on this board should also be over!0
