Style Card Royal Bank of Scotland

Hello!

I am looking for any advice or help!

Years ago, when I was a stupid 17/18 year old I thought it would be a good idea to take out an account with Style for a HMV card....I think I was too young in the first place for them to give me the card.......I was a bit daft and kept the card, but it has been very difficult for me to pay off the card as the interest rate is ridiculously high and only half of what I pay of each month counts as payement and I am paying back a huge amount of money! I haven't used the card for about 5 years and I pay a set fee every month and I get charged a huge amount!

Has anyone been in this situation with Style financial services? What can I do? Can I freeze the account so it can no longer gain interest or do I just have to suck it up?

Any help would be greatfully recieved!

Thank you!

  • what type of card is it...a credit card? if you were 17 when you took it out then the contract would be void

  • It would be a store card and the charges including any £12 ones are reclaimable in their entirety. Further to what has been said by only paddy, did you lie about your age to get a card?
I have not worked for NatWest Bank since February 2009

  • No I didn't lie, I was probably 18 then.

Should I write to them and ask them for a list of charges?

Its a Style bank card with RBS which was also a cash card

    Thank you

You should, using the templates, request a true copy of the original contract, including the terms and conditions applicable at the time. Additionally, you want a list of all charges to your account for missed payments, letters, etc, etc. You will need to enclose a cheque for £10 with the template.

Keep copies of the completed template, in case you need it later.

The original contract will be dated, then you will know exactly what age you were. If under 18, seek further advice here.

Remember, they may offer you £12 or £12.50 for each charge. However, you want to pursue them for the full amount, plus interest at 8% from the date of each charge. There is a calculator somewhere on this site to help you with that.

    Good luck.:D
