there's a thread in DT about it, it's staying reasonably calm and polite there. Well, by DT standards anyway!Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0

Thanks Bookie - I was thinking of that, although cant do the holiday I want on £500 (Japan)..
Actually you probably only a 2/3 away from it. I managed to get flights for 450 return, accommodation for 2 was 500 in total and the rest well - full three course meal for a tenner? At least - when I went in June last year that was the case!! Although why I wished now I had used that money for debt-busting, and then gone for a bit more of a lavish adventure (stayed in tokyo, never visited anywhere beyond that really...) in such a beautiful country now...Sealed Pot No:721 started 05/08/09 until 30/04/09 Target:£100 - £60 Banked!

Becky Im going to be the tight wad amoungst us. I think you should save the lot bar buying a few ESSENTIAL bits (;) ) and present for Mum. If you want to go to Japan then start putting by each month. I guess it depends what your long term plans are but I think its quite important for you to start saving for the future (yes I know its boring) but say in 5 years time you suddenly want to move or buy a house and you haven't got savings you might be kicking yourself that you didn't save earlier. You on the other hand might think sod it, im too young and don't want to be worrying about it, which I can understand too.I'll make a wish, take a chance, make a change And breakaway. I'll take a risk, take a chance, make a change and breakaway ....

I've been once before on the cheap itsarandom as part of a larger trip - if I go back (which I've always wanted too) then I want to do it properly if that makes sense (most likely in a tour because its a good way to get the rail pass etc included)
Good to hear you can still get good deals though - with the yen appreciation I thought they might be out for a few years0 -
Grr, I've just had an email from the OU. They're changing things around, and basically it means you wont be able to go full time from now on, you can only do one big course a year and it has to start in October. So that messes up my long term OU plans.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0

To be honest I figured I was going to have to sleep in those capsule hotels and shower in the onsens - instead we got this beautiful place with its own onsen - lovely.
I admit there were meals where the price just kept going up and up... but never got beyond about 25 for a meal...
When I bought my yen it was 200 yen to the pound - which helped a lot - bought a watch for 50 pence while therebroke about three weeks later... no backlight and not even FAINTLY waterproof

That would be good - except I'll never be able to buy a house (and dont really want to anyway) - I'd love to rent a different place but thats not going to happen until I can afford a bit more rent every month (I'd need to be able to go to about £1,200 pcm and atm thats way off)
I dont drive and I dont have unexpected bills (landlord deals with those)...so I dont want to squirrel it away for no reason at all...hmmm

OK can sort of see where you are coming for and I am all for living each day as its your last. I just think having a small pot of savings would be good. A lot can change in a short space of time and just having that security is a good thing. Just my opinion thoughI'll make a wish, take a chance, make a change And breakaway.
