Thanks again for the replies - whether we are soft or what the prevailing weather conditions were in November is digressing from the original post concerning charitable status! As I am sure most people do we went down the verbal route of trying to sort the problems out before resorting to sending the letter. Maybe we should have written sooner but we didn't and so the facts are as they are.

As in previous post we are pursuing the legal clarification for their statements in the letter received. Our concern also is for any future problems - we can be in a situation where any unreasonable length of time to fix a problem and/or one which leaves us financially down will not be of any concern to the LL due to claiming charitable status.

    Many thanks as always.
  • To the best of my knowledge it neither snowed nor was frosty during the daytime anywhere in the country during November, barring perhaps the last couple of days:

In parts of the Highlands there were quite large drops of snow during november & frosty nights...

    Cheers!

Charitable status doesn't prevent giving rebates/compensation - it all depends on the policies in place

As an example, the 'Family Housing Handbook' (PDF doc: http://www.housing21.co.uk/housing/already-with-us/publications/ ) of Housing 21 has a section relating to compensation for repairs delays.

Ask for copies of your LL's policies relating to repairs and rebates/refunds/compensation.
Opinion, advice and information are different things. Don't be surprised if you receive all 3 in response. :D

silvercar and prince of pounds are correct.
My sister works for an assylum charity, and someone left their bicycle lent against the wall of their building, their bicycle was damaged by an angry assylum seeker and the owner of the bicycle tried to claim conpensation from the charity this eventually went to court and the claim was turned down as the owner of the bike didn't have permission to leave their bicycle on the property and also the assylum seeker was not under the control of the charity.

Basically what I am trying to say is that A) the trustees of the charity will probably only be able to pay out when ordered by the courts and B) Your claim will have to have some basis in law.
They have completed their obligation to repair/replace your boiler but do you have any material claim that can be substantiated in law with regards to their failure to repair.
