Hi donna 1888 - From your post it seems you have an all electric flat, which is the most expensive form of heating and can run up bills of over a £1000 a year

It also appears that having had your supplier changed without your knowledge, that you have been the victim of "Slamming" by a Southern Electric salesman, possibily with the co-operation of your letting agents.
I suggest you write to South Electric with a copy to n'power, saying you have not instigated the change and they should treat it as an "Erronious Transfer" and return you to n'power
    Good Luck

    OP,

As it happens, Southern come out well in the comparison sites between different suppliers.
Before you do anything it might be worth your while checking at, for example

If you have not agreed to sign up with SE you can ask for an Erronous (spelling!) Transfer.
They can check how you were signed up aswell.

They will be able to send you back to your other supplier.

As for the meter take all the reads on your meter. There will be a cycle display button (black or blue) write down the read on the first screen, then press the button and do the same for every setting on the meter.

Call SE and ask for the Pre-payment dept and ask them if your settings are right? If they are then thats what you are using.

You can also take a read every day for 7 days and see what your useage works out at. As someone else said all elec heating is very expensive!

You no longer pay a higher price on a PPM so you arent paying more by having a PPM and if it is a new meter there wont be any old debt set on there.

Hope this helps there are a number of things SE can do to help!

    Hope you get it sorted!
