Car insurance in France

I am moving to France early 2010. Can anybody help me with car insurance. I'm struggling to find much about car insurance in France. There seems to be no automated systems like comparing meerkats, obviously making it a more long winded process.
Also if anybody else has any info on moving to France, feel free to share even if you think I already know it. It will not go unappreciated.

Hi
I just did a google for French Car Insurance Brokers. There is a company called frenchentree.com which lists a few companies and brokers.
I think you are right that in france they don't have comparison sites and that you have to use the local Insurance Broker/agent.
Have you tried using a french search engine and typing your search contents in French. If you are using an English search engine, it will mostly find English results. The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.0 -
Hi. I currently live in France and have two English plated cars. AXA Agence Limonier in Nice will insure your cars for you - tel: 04 97 11 71 17, and they speak English too!
Good luck!0 -
The UK model of direct to consumer insurance created by Direct Line really hasn't taken off as much around the world as you would imagine - DL even launched their model in other countries and had to pull out because people just didnt buy into the idea and continued to use their broker in their town which their family have probably used for 5 generations. You cannot even consider having aggregators until you have customers that are shopping around which in turn requires national companies.
The french market is still dominated by local brokersAll posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

as indicated above, the market is dominated by local brokers. Cover is also different, as are plenty of laws of the road!
I think you can get direct quotes, but will have to try each individual company. AGF was a huge insurer but has now finaly changed it's Brand to Allianz France after being bought out a while ago. It appears they have a quote and buy here https://www.allianz.fr/allianz/index.jsp?codeTarif=AUT&etape=init&BesoinId=AUTO
I am sure AXA France and Groupama will have the same.0 -
Groupama have a website which is in English and give quotes online: http://www.groupama.fr/en/individuals-my-assets/individuals-my-car/individuals-conduire-your-acr-insurance.html
As stated above, direct insurance hasn't fully spread around Europe yet. Direct Line successfully entered Spain as Linea Directa and appear to have been around for quite a while now. But France hasn't taken to direct insurance yet.0
