funny enough theres panorama on about it at the moment on bbc1.
however i have a query....
on saturday our postie put a 'card' through my mums door that looked like a 'we missed you as you werent in card'. [my mum lives on the same road hence we have the same crap postie but thats another story altogether that ill mention at the end of this]
we were there, 4 adults and 2 kids and heard the post drop through so mum went out and called to him.
he explained she had to go to the post office and claim something that didnt have the correct postage. so thinking it was important off she went today to find a christmas card, normal size, with a stamp on it. it was just a card and not heavy and they charged her £1.60 odd.
if i was with her i would have argued this out but the sorting office dont issue receipts and she has binned the envelope.
can anyone explain why this happened?
and as a further rant i believe our postie is off his trolley. constantly puts the wrong mail through the wrong letter box resulting in a card that wa sent 2 weeks ago as 1st class for my daughters 4th birthday today not arriving. it contained money in it.
ive chased him numerous occaions for putting the wrong post through the wrong box. its a road and not a block of flats so why the problem? the other night i returned home to fine an expensive parcel sent via royal mail desserted on my doorstep. anyone could have walked by and nicked it. esp as the old computer desk we put out last week to take to the dump vanished overnight on saturday.

Contact your local depot if your postie isn't doing his job properly - don't chase him. Hopefully they will talk to him and get it fixed, if not then complain again. If enough people make his bosses aware of his behaviour then they will recognise there is an issue and deal with it.
Cash in the postal system is never a good idea - that's what postal orders were invented for.
No idea about the £1.60 thing - how did she pay it? If it was over the phone by card then you have proof of payment there. I would call the Royal Mail and see what they say. If she paid at the post office when she picked the item up, then she should have mentioned it then (sorry, but it's not clear in your question how it was arranged).0 -
Caed should have been sent as large letter so you have the difference to pay plus £1 (? or thereabouts) as an admin charge.
No point in arguing it (unless the amount is incorrect) that is the way it works.0 -
woman in front of me a while back was charged about the same amount for a birthday card.
Nothing special but the birthday card had a badge on the front (one of the kiddies "I am Eight" or something).
Basically, the badge stopped the card fitting through their default slot for envelopes so she had to pay the excess, she wasn't happy either.
On a second note, one of my neighbours complained about receiving the wrong mail.
I think my house was one of only about three houses in the street which had a legible and clear to see door number on it.
Maybe some people think posties should know who lives where.
NB. I hate lazy strike happy posties as much as everyone else!!0 -

try delivering to tenement stairs with no flat numbers on the doors and no flat numbers on the mail
to the OP,the size and proportion pricing has been in for 3 years now
your item was 60p underpaid so it was hardly a small amount of postage that hadnt been paid0 -

well it depends on the size of the card
if you were charged 1.60 it either had no postage or was not a 'piddly normal sized card'0 -

If the card wasn't paid for correctly its go nothing to do with the poste he just the bearer of bad news.
I never bother putting things in the post box any more unless it a free post return thing allways go the post office counter cos this exact problem
But as student i do have time during the day to do so I understand that most people do not have the time I think the new system is a bit daft.0
