I think I have enough experience about computers to give some advice thank you.
Which is what this site is all about.
YES I KNOW REGISTRY CLEANERS ARE FOR SOFTWARE.
For your information registry cleaners can solve some problems. I had a Sony vaio laptop which screen would black out. Sony support gave me a link for reg vac. a free program with step by step instructions on what to do.0 -

Dod you run a checkdisk as I suggested earlier?I've had BSOD a couple of times, but usually everything freezes, can't get into Task Manager, IE freezes, cannot select to show desktop, absolutly nothing, even if I go into standby and come back 5-10 mins later
The OP only said she was using one AV - Avira. If you are running more than one Antivirus program on the computer simultaneously, it may well be that they are interfering with each other and crashing the system under specific circumstances.
Choose one AV program and disable the others and then see if the problem persists.0 -

You claimed there was a specific one for the particular model of laptop you're using it on. You said, and I quote:
If a registry cleaner has been made for an individual laptop model number then it will be to fix a known problem
That is absolute rubbish. Manufacturers release patches and driver/BIOS updates, not registry cleaners. And yes, whilst registry cleaners can solve problems, they usually cause more than they solve. But hey, I've only 22 years experience with PCs so what would I know?0 -
Ok, i'm on Firefox, no better, it's just taken me 25 mins to get the laptop turnt on, load up IE, everything frozen (laptop cool and on a hard surface), restart, finlly get Firefox loaded, and it completely freezes again. My other half's recieved his Windows 7 pack, in all honesty, is it going to be easier just to reinstall? I'm doing most my web work on my G1 as I can actually load something up on there. Currently, its behaving with 1 firefox page open, and i've manually shut down some processes - down from 57 to 47, and something called "Background Intelligence Service" closed unexpectedly, but AV is clear, and MBAM and SAS came back clear, so I wonder if its a Microsoft thing, but in all honesty, losing my patience with it slowly >.< Also deleted 3gb of stuff *in case* it helped somehow, but used less than half of my HDD, so no idea

BTW, loaded up this morning, absolutly fine, even on the Facebook games!~*Cerenia*~

As for whether installing Windows 7 will improve matters, as I said it's a possibility Windows is corrupted and it will rule that out (as well as ruling out any software conflicts or viruses) so yes, if it's not a problem, do it. If you go down that route make sure you do a clean install (ie reformat and install afresh), don't just do an upgrade install or you may still be stuck with problems.
If after a clean install of Windows 7 you still have problems you will unfortunately know for certain it's a hardware problem. Let us know how it goes

That link I posted was wrong, I know because I had to go out and I rushed looking at it and though that I was on the advents site. But I got corrected by jdpower.
You seem to know who’s got what computer experience. So what if you have 22 years experience. Who gives a f***? You want a medal?
Oh and I did get a link of Sony about removing a registry entire. But rather that edit the registry they gave me a link for reg vac. the page is no longer their but this was in 2002. Model pcg-fx 105. Look it up.
Tbh I think I will give up with this site. You try and give some friendly advice, and get some jumped up little so and so looking to give digs.0 -
Lets not start a "he said, she said, I know this, I know that" argument, it serves no purpose other than to clog up the OP's thread with stuff that is of no use to the actual problem they are asking for help with.0

Nope, not very PC literate - last time I went into Safe Mode, I somehow killed my PC
Other half's looking at putting me onto windows 7, i think that might be the only way of getting rid of this.
Don't you believe it!! MY desktop kept crashing for a few years on Windows XP, so I thought rather than fix the problem, I'd upgrade to WIndows 7 Ultimate Edition.
BIG mistake - even worse than XP was. I now run Ubuntu Linux, which is free and does everything I need it to do and more.
I work in IT and am pleased to have finally ditched Windows on this machine.0 -

WHS - it's a very good place to start. If it's overheating, then you can open the case up and clean it out a bit.0
