Old cheques...

Thanks guys and gals for your comments and suggestions, I will contact the Halifax to enquire what to do, the money is documented in my grandads will but instead of my dad asking me for my children's birth certs he opened two accounts in his name, with their names on it. I was worried that if he died his wife would keep the money and I'd have no claim to it for my children.
I'll go online now and find some contact info for the bank and see what we can do - thanks ever so much again

Hi
I would suggest that you write a letter from your dad to Halifax and get your dad to sign (if possible) explaining that teh cheques had not been presented and are now out of date and could they please issue new cheques. Make sure in the letter that you put your name as the person to act on your fathers behalf and you take some ID with you to prove who you are.
I work in a bank and it is normal procedure if somebody is ill or similar for them to write a letter say for someone to cash money on their behalf. Or as other people have mentioned if it is a long term arrangement to set up power of attorney
Hope this may help you
