Yet its an all new model and you got an excellent price.

    Here is the website:

Also this forum is excellent for Liteon and the ILO which is the same.

very useful, but not sure about your new model:

To make it multi region (again don't know about your newer model):

LVW-5045 region-code hack: On the setup menu, move the cursor down to the ‘exit’ box. While it’s highlighted press ‘2’, ‘9’, ‘6’ and ‘0’ on the remote and a separate menu screen will pop up. On this you can choose the region code you want (press ‘0’ for multiregion).

hey thanks tony for many great links will bookmark all of them. My only quible with liteon is that they always hide the zoom, a-b rather than having sepret buttons for them which is cool for novices but I like lots of buttons. Oh I was reading menu and it mentions your model so they have made 2 differnt types other than dual its same (dual layer disks still expensive).

Tried some divx movies and they work fine wma audio fine too.
Time shift is very very cool like sky+
watch the start of programme while its recording is also good and you can fast forward adverts and rewind etc that is awsome.

they have a model above this with 250GB so maybe in future you can upgrade hardisk.

I will try to report back, tony anything you like about your machine etc and your views please?

    AJ

p.s this recorder allows the 3hr mode I remember long time ago they use to hack firmware to get this mode, not tested that yet.
    HQ: 1hr / SP: 2hrs / LP:3hrs / EP: 4hrs / SLP:6hrs

I'm sure you can upgrade the HD people upgraded from 80 to 160 on the last model. As far as I'm aware Lite-on is the only recorder you can easily hack the firmware to remove macrovission, I have done this on my model and also enabled the 3 hr record. The only thing I don't like is when you have recorded a few programs and try to set another is says the record menu is full and asks you to delete one of the old records time, if you go into the setup to delete the record history they make you do it one by one so its a pain but to a huge issue just a same you can't delete the record history with one button press.Have you tried the remote region unlock I gave above? It should work on yours and there is no risk as its just a remote control unlock.

  • Sounds a great player - and I am looking for one to replace my (very) old Sony DVD player.

If anyone knows of a shop with stock near Thame (Oxon)? - Otherwise recommedations for a DVD player (region free) with HDMI as I am getting a new TV (today - hooray).

    Thanks

I have a 5045 gdl+ Allwrite and as a novice I have a question ( or should I put it on the techie board?)
I have tried to put a DVd film onto the hard disc using the dvd ray in the machine. It comes up with a protection warning and will not copy it to the HD.
What can I do to get around this and will the region free/ macro vision hack help ?
I got mine from Ebuyer a few months ago for about £220, So the above price is good

The macro vission hack will remove the protection but only when recording from another DVD player the 5045.

You can't record a protected DVD to the HD even with the MV hack.

I don't think the hack has been tested on this model, ask the question in the forum I provided a link to they are great and will help.

The remote control code makes your player region free and able to play DVD'd from any country:

LVW-5045 region-code hack: On the setup menu, move the cursor down to the ‘exit’ box. While it’s highlighted press ‘2’, ‘9’, ‘6’ and ‘0’ on the remote and a separate menu screen will pop up. On this you can choose the region code you want (press ‘0’ for multiregion).
