New Job yes or no?

I was offered a new job today.
There is an issue it will involve a paycut of £86 per month take home pay. I only just got a pay rise 2 months ago. So if I think about in tearms of what I have been used to it is a paycut of £17 quid a month. However that does involve not paying into my pension for now.
The new job would offer more opportunity, experience and room for development eventually.
Is it worth it at the moment or deeply irresponsible whilst I am on a DMP? As my pay increase was recent I haven't upped any payments yet so I woun't really be any worse off that way.

Hi Oneday77
Congratulations!! I think go for it! You have to think of the long term future, if it means more opportunity and experience then that is so important to and you can work really hard and get a pay increase there! I do not think it is irresponsible, I think it is a good move.
You will just need to adjust your budget accordingly to your new pay and tighten the belt a little bit more!
Let us know what you decide to do!

I think a lot of the time on here we forget that there are more important things than becoming debt free, and building a better long term future is one of them.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0

Congratulations Oneday!!!! I agree with Ames. Also as we spend so much of our life at work, this is an area that you should strive to make more fulfillingGC: £400/ £00

"more opportunity, experience and room for development eventually". these are the words that stuck out for me. If you really think that this is the case - and it is not 'hope over expectation' then go for it. The long term future and your satisfaction in your job is important - really important. However, if you think that it is insecure and a gamble with this company, think hard - especially if you have been in your current job for a while. The longer you are employed the more rights you have (re redundancy, dismissal etc) and you have a pension and a higher wage as things stand.
Of course, it's your call, but weigh up the pros and cons. Either way, it's great to be in a position of choice. Well done! Best wishes whatever you decide.0 -
I think if you want to develop you have to go for it. If you don't go for it don't you think you will regret it. I think you already know what you want to do.
I probably get made redundant in March from Local Government after 16 years. Part of me is terrified but it is a fantastic opportunity to change direction and do what I really want to do. If I'm still in a safe bureaucratic environment for the next 25 years I will probably feel like shooting myself.
