meter set up wrong it seems, now BG want me to pay for replacement!!

Hi, I recently changed to british gas online saver with energy smart and cannot get the bill prediction tool to work, and I have called a few times regarding this and was told they would sort it. Called again today to chase it and the advisor informed me my former dual rate meter will not work for online bills properly, and I should have been informed of this back last year when I went to the websaver plan, and that this was why I have been having issues submitting any online meter reads and have always had to call them through. When we moved into the house in May 08, we were with NPower and I got shot of them asap, and when I sorted the transfer out, they said I would need a new single rate meter, which they would install free no problem. Fine. Upon calling them to arrange a suitable time for this to be done, I was told "no need for that, we can just add your meter reads together and bill them on a single rate", great me thinks,no hassle, same outcome. Now, fast forward to me not being able to use the bill prediction, and I am told "your meter is not compatible and never has been" and yes they will let me have a single rate credit meter, but only if I pay, as THEY get charged by my local metering company to change it over, I would have to foot the bill, outrageous, considering I was all set for a free meter change in May 08 and then decided not to on their advice! Anyone else had anything like this happen?

CC limits £26000

Long term CC debt £0

Total low rate loan debt £3000

Almost debt free feeling, priceless.

Ex money nightmare, learnt from my mistakes and never going back there again, in control of my finances for the first time in my adult life and it feels amazing.

I have the old dual rate(Economy 7) meter and am with BG.

They still add the two meter readings and treat this as the one meter reading. e.g. 1000kWh on day meter and 200kWh on night meter is treated as 1,200kWh on a 'normal' 24/7 tariff.
  • Success, after about 5 managers and a lot of explaining over and over, new meter being installed this coming weds, free, gratis!
