BT DECT handset charging problems

I've got a BT Freestyle 2100 DECT handset. The batteries (marked 600mAh)don't appear to be charging up on the base any more, so I replaced them with some (charged) NiMH batteries marked 850 mAh. However, the phone is still flashing its battery low symbol at me. What am I doing wrong?

You sure they're charged recently - only say that as I thought I'd try swapping 550s ofr 800s in my BT DECT (3505), didn't work at all, battery tester revealed why... Will report back when they're re-charged.0

The 3505 worked Ok with the higher-capacity batteries.0
