MSE News: 2009 'the worst ever year' for many

2009 has been a real struggle financially probably because this year it's been far harder to juggle credit cards and it seems as if every time you turn around something's gone up in price or another extra charge has been added. It's difficult not to worry when you've got something to lose.
On the other hand other areas of my life have been pretty good so I wouldn't say it was the worse year ever (that was probably 2007 for me)
Lets all hope that 2010 if a far better year for everything!0 -
2009 has been a lot lot better than 2008 for me as I have been working since the end of January. 2008 I only worked 7 months.0

2009 has been awful... I only had work for 4 months, but had to pay mortgage and other debts etc in the meantime which used up all my hard-earned savings.
On the bright side, I truly learnt:
1 why debt is a terrible, terrible thing to have hanging over you when lean times hit,
2 that even when the worst has happened and the sky has fallen in that the world keeps turning.
3 that I don't need half as much material 'stuff' as I thought (there is nothing like rooting through your treasured possessions for stuff to sell whilst considering do I want to keep this more than I want to pay my mortgage for this month? to make you focus on what is really important).
I've also learned a lot about my own personal qualities. And I am NEVER getting into so much debt ever again.0 -
2009 has been my worst year due to acquiring a tax debt because of some unclear forms. But really its only money i shouldn't have had to begin with.
So this year hasn't really been anymore than getting another year older and gaining one more year of life experience. Whilst the finanical world has collapsed around me, i have been very lucky and been mostly unaffected.Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.
There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies0 -
This year has been both good and bad for me! On a DMP and on antidepressants by the end of it, which doesn't on the face of it sound good!
However I do actually see these as good things! I've finally faced these things and have started to deal with them! My head is now firmly removed from the sand! This time last year I was crying at the end of each month due to running out of money and not knowing what I was going to do about it! And hadn't as yet faced up to the fact that life was all getting to me more than I admitted!
Now, I've learned to budget, save and control my own life/money and that sometimes you can't just sort it by yourself without a little additional help!
I've also realised how lucky I am! I have a house, a job, a husband who's going through it all with me and a supportive family to fall back on if I really need to!
So this year for me has been better than last year and I've learned a lot and probably changed a lot!!
However I hope 2010 will be a lot lot better!DMP Mutual Support Thread Member No 261Debt at start of DMP (Jan 2009) = 46,147.86 Now = 36,826.98DFD = [STRIKE]Jan 2014[/STRIKE] May 2013 ([strike]60[/strike] [STRIKE]52[/STRIKE] 41 payments to go)NSD:Nov 12/12:jDec 9/10 Jan 5/10Slowly but surely:coffee:0
