How to stop getting baby emails...?

Hi guys

Back in October I had a miscarriage. At the time, I was told about a website you can go to that stops you getting all the baby-related emails that were signed up to in the first few weeks of baby excitement.

I didn't do it at the time, and now can't find the info. Does anyone know what that website / email address is?

Other mums to be, be warned, I've recently been getting emails from Cow & Gate and SMA, who I am certain I didn't sign up to as never had any interest in powder milk. I think they must have got my details through the Emma's Diary thing... However, to cancel emails, both expect you to go through an entire registration process.

Have emailed both companies and said I think it's an insensitive process given that they must experience women who have had miscarriages but haven't heard back from either.

I'm coping well with the miscarriage, but having regular email reminders of what I could have been thinking about right now is not helping me move on.

Pampers are even worse. They write and email you with all the "what your baby is doing now"/ "your baby is six months old" etc. stuff - up to three years or so. It is very hard, especially if your having a bad day about it all.

All I can suggest is clicking on the "no contact" links to remove your address from the email list. It does work.
"One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."
  • Thanks Mrcow... Unfortunately, the two I've received so far won't let you deregister until you have fully registered with them... so there is no "click here to stop receiving these emails" option.

I'm not entirely sure that this is legal but there you go
  • http://www.mpsonline.org.uk/bmpsr/ that looks like it might do some good? Hope it helps for you.
Scar tissue that I wish you saw, sarcastic mister know it all, close your eyes and I'll kiss you cause with the birds I'll share this lonely view.
  • really tricky with e-mails, I never got into that bit of advertising. You could try listing them as spam and then they might by pass your in box

I know when the Bounty ladies gave out things I simply declined to put my address on the things - they were aware that you didn't have to give the details and could still have the goodies - they just didn't like it!
  • beebuzz, it depends which email system you use but a lot of them also have blocking systems where you can enter either email addresses or email domains to block (eg. you could choose to block fredbloggs@website.com or just any email address from anyone at website.com)

If they aren't playing ball with deregistering you from their mailing lists when you ask (which I think is illegal but anyway...) then perhaps you could get round it by just doing that, to stop your email provider accepting those emails for you. It is incredibly insensitive of them.

If you have more energy then I'd be tempted to email them telling them to remove you and that you will contact the press about their heartlessness if they don't confirm to you that they have done it within a week.

Whatever you do, I hope that your ability to cope continues and that you get some peace away from the email reminders to come to terms with everything.
  • I use incredimail, and when emails come through that i no longer want, even when i have asked the emails to cease i right click on the email and get it bounced back, and deleted.
Their email generator then assumes that your email address is no longer valid, and they stop, it is brilliant!
  • Thanks for the advice guys.

Have just received my second email of the day from Cow & Gate... "You're now at 22 weeks, how is your body feeling..." etc etc

Think I will definitely follow up with the companies directly that they should make deregistering a much simpler process, which should be the case anyway, and even more so given the sensitivity of the subject.

Have deregistered my postal address so that shoud help at least.

I had the same problem and ended up having to mark them as spam so they went into my junk mail folder. It's disgraceful though as it is so upsetting.
