Do you know the area you are moving too?
Insurance is generally a 12 month contract and short term rates are expensive (same amount of work for the insurer).

Why don't you just find an insurer that's competitive for both post codes and not too high on admin charges and simply amend the policy?
You should check out any charegs for changing up front.

Lloyds TSB allow you to take out an annual policy for contents insurance and make no charge if you need to cancel during the year (14 days notice required).

If you pay for the year in advance they refund you the premium, charging only for the period you have been on cover.
  • thanks both, that's very useful. the area i'm moving to won't be much different.
