I am looking for a good laptop to do the normal day to day spreadsheets, presentations, web browsing etc, but also want one capable of handling large digital photos and Photoshop software. I am thinking about a Toshiba A500 -19x. Any comments or better suggestions?

Looks nicely spec'ed to do that, the graphics card and 4gbs of ram will certainly help..
However, for the same money (or a little less), you could also get a dell witth a 17" screen (rather than the toshibas 16" screen)

Not forgetting Quidco

Thanks, the Dell has a 256 mb graphics card where as the Toshiba has 512mb. Would this make a great difference?0

The graphics card isnt really that relevant for static 2D graphics (e.g. Photoshop) - its for 3D abilities that the card with extra memory makes a difference. A standard integrated graphics card would also work just as well but thats a nice spec laptop.
For the editing you want to do lots of memory and the fastest processor you can get will help.0 -
My Dell studio 17 only has the built in (rather rubbish) graphics card.. it's still a very good laptop for image editing. Like said before, you need RAM and processor speed for imaging0

Many thanks for that link. I'd not seen that site before. It neatly summarizes offers on the range I was interested in. I've just ordered a studio 15 in a pretty colour
(the spec is damn good too, honest!!!)Debbie0 -
Having ordered the A500 - 19X from Tesco, they rang today saying it was out of stock. Everywhere else is too. Am now considering the A500 - 17X but this is £100 more. Any thoughts? Must be able to get in time for Christmas.0
