NTL - Milton Keynes

NTL have just put their basic cable package up to £4.00. I'm usually a bit lapse in paying my NTL bill and received a £10 fine for late payment, so I phoned them up to pay this and the rest of the years bill, however, the girl on the end of the phone told me if I sign up to Direct Debit the monthly charge would stay at £2.77. So of course I signed up, but the bill has come in, at £4.00 to be taken by direct debit. I have phoned them explaining what I agreed to, but the bloke said that I was saving £4 because if I hadn;t signed up to DD I would have incurred a £4 non DD charge per month on top of the £4 package charge!!??

I don't suppose I have a leg to stand on here. But can anyone point me in the right direction!

Cheers

Sarah:mad:

You might want to start here

Looks like the first person was saving you money by switching you to direct debit, but the second accurately explained the how and why. I guess the first was in sales mode (sell you a direct debit payment system) and the second was in customer service mode (explain what you actually got) ;-)

There is a £2 administration charge on any payment method other than direct debit, so by switching you saved £2 per month.
  • Gone up to £4 and there's no alternative for many in MK as the analogue reception is so poor in this area and many MK postcodes can't get freeview.
So what to do when analogue switches off? The NTL service is analogue cable and when I called them last year the only package available was the standard 5 channels plus a few worthless extras. The only alternative is a SKY package but they are having a laugh with their prices.
  • we are i the same predicament in cambridgeshire, i enquired when we would be getting broadband etc. and was told not in the foreseeable future! he said that analogue will be faded out soon which will leave us with just sky to fall back on . seems a bit mean really when we are paying more for less of a service than other people. ntl just cannot afford to put everyone on digital and broadband

Thanks for your replys, it just goes to show that the Customer Service people don't know what they're talking about.

Luckily we can get Freeview where we live in Milton Keynes, (we installed an aerial in the loft and added a signal booster), and I am considering cancelling the NTL all together!

Try this forum, specifically for NTL (HELL) you'll find many NTL workers on here who can give you inside info on what to do and where to go with the problem you have. They helped loads when i posted on there, they were brilliant.
