Wedding vs Jaw surgery

Hi,

I just wanted anyones advice and what they would do!

Im engaged and planning my wedding but I have a confidence problem with my teeth, the top jaw sticks out and I have inflamed gums! So I went to my dentist to check if I could have braces, but they referred me to Kings College hospital, I need my bottom jaw broken and 2 years worth of braces which obviously puts my wedding plans back.

Im 24 but I dont know if I can wait 3 years for my teeth to be sorted out then sort out my wedding, I would like to have kids within the next couple of years.

What would you do?

  • Your fiance loves you completely the way you are which is why he is going to marry you. Why change anything?
Everyone has something they dislike about their appearance but believe me, you will look amazing on your wedding day with or without surgery and I would only undergo that amount of surgery for health reasons rather than cosmetic which is what I am reading...
Hope you are able to make a decision soon, but you are young enough to wait to get married and have children a bit later if that is what you want to do!

If it's very important to you then have the surgery - I had my first DD this year at the ripe old age of 29 so you have PLENTY of time yet ;)
Then there is the fact that you don't actually have to be married these days before you start a family ;)

  • I agree with Kezzballs. :)

However we're planning a family and currently I'm 32 ;) We decided we need to move house first and be married before that, so I'm looing at being a mummy at 35 if I'm lucky. So dont worry about having kiddies - loadsa time yet if you did decide to have the surgery first.

Just as a complete aside to this - have you asked them if ther is a middle ground?

    Nixie.

  • My school friend had the same issue as you and at 18 she got her jaw broken and reset... I was at uni when she got this done so i saw her 6 months later and hardly recognised her...

She looks very different now than she did before the op.. just to warn you.. the change of jaw changed the look of her face quite dramatically. Not in a bad way but just in a OMG you look totally different sort of way.

I'm now used to seeing her with her new jawline but it did take a bit of getting used to..

I guess it really if you think the health benefits will be better for you?

There's no hassles having it done whilst you're married or with children .... at aged 27 i had similar done, and didn't have braces off until I was 29 ish!

    It's quite trendy nowadays!

just thought i would let you know my wife has undergone the exact same procedure , braces then jaws broken and re alligned , they also took out all her wisdom teeth , and another couple of teeth for good measure , amzing what they did really , she reckons the worst bit was not being able to eat anything fo 3 months after her jaws were broken ,
we did pay for 'invisible' braces so that the braces weren't as visible , which i think made things more bearable for her

    Two years is nothing!!
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

    HI,

Just a question for bigblackdog, did your wife not eat anything for 3 months? They told me I could only have liquid foods for a couple of weeks then soft food.

    Thank you
