Proof a Debt Collection Agency has to provide that the debt is mine?

If a 3rd party debt collection agency is chasing a debt. What proof do they have to provide that the debt is in fact yours?
Are statements enough to prove it or do they have to produce a signed credit agreement?
I requested that a collection agency provided me a signed credit agreement to prove thats its mine, but they just sent me a computer print out, not a proper statement that you would normally receive on a monthly basis.

To prove they own the debt and have a right to collect it they should send a notice of assignment.
If you want to see a true copy of the credit agreement (which doesn't have to be the signed one but needs to be the same as the one you signed) you would need to do a CCA request - which needs to include a £1 postal order.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
